"THEY RUINES MY 10 YEAR OLD DAUGHTERS BIRTHDAY!! WORST HOTEL EXPERIENCE EVER!! I booked 2 nights at Tru by hilton sterling heights for my daughter to celebrate her 10th birthday. Friday night was honestly an amazing experience, Mitchell was awesome but misleading/dishonest. When I checked in I did disclose that I was celebrating a birthday with a few girls and having some additional guests the next day in the afternoon. He assured me it would not be a problem and went above and beyond to help make my daughter feel special. He let us decorate the lobby for our dinner, and was not bothered by the frequent visits from my daughter and her friends to chat (I was with them 100% of the time). He was so friendly and helpful that I had very high hopes for the remainder of our stay. The next day (Saturday) is when everything went south. I had planned to have some additional girls come to the hotel for swimming, pizza, and cake from 1pm to 5pm (I was told the night before this wouldn't be an issue). Some parents decided to stay with their children while attending and one parent was approached by hotel staff regarding what room they were staying in. I stepped and said they were with me and that is when I was told "Tru does not allow birthday parties" and we could not use the pool or have anyone in our room. I was mortified, and crushed at the thought of telling my daughter her party was over. I asked to speak with a manager immediately. The manager, John, did not care at all that I was told the night before everything would be fine, he had no remorse, he didn't even apologize. So I in return told him I wanted a full refund for both nights. He said they would only refund Saturday night (if we left) because there was nothing wrong with our stay last night. I said "EXACTLY! EVERYTHING WAS FINE YESTERDAY BUT TODAY ITS NOT" what sense does that make?? He offered no sympathy for the situation he was putting me in (at this point all the kids are in the pool having a great time). After I had John break the news to my daughter I went in the parking lot and sat in my car and balled my eyes out for a good 30 minutes before I was able to compose myself and address the other parents/guests. I will never stay at another Hilton Hotel again, this experience has caused me serious emotional stress and could have easily been avoided. If the manager would have been kinder and more sympathetic to the fact that I was lied to the night before, I'm sure we could have came to a reasonable solution."
"The lobby, rooms and washrooms are the most modern and youthful feeling. It’s not luxurious but feels fresh and is recently renovated with neat touches and well equipped with squeezy style bottles of lotion, shampoo and conditioner. Don’t be fooled by the building on the outside, it’s a whole different vibe inside…renovated top to bottom! The lobby is like a lounge where you can hang out, play pool, or just grab the included breakfast and hangout in these little pods, hanging chair or desks to get work done. The rooms are on the smaller side (lacking a desk, one double bed only) but it doesn’t feel small because of the well thought design for a missing closet and desk. The washroom includes soft close toilet seat, two toilet paper hangers with an extra roll on the side, huge squeeze style hand soap and lotion in the sink, and the same huge squeeze style bottles of body shower gel, shampoo and conditioner that smell good and feel good built into the walk in shower! These bottles also have some cool messaging on it…lol. The rooms are free from carpet and the bathroom is very clean and well maintained. *The only downside is the bedding felt old and used and had some hair on it. Docking one star for that* Overall I got way more value than paid for! Hotels are expensive these days and it’s nice to see a hotel like this for the same price. The attention to detail is incredible."
"I was at the Hilton last night, I started playing pool checked into a room. I announced that was 35% deaf I have a disability. The receptionist knew this I was playing I was a little loud cuz when you're 35% deaf and your hearing aids die you can't use them you're going to be 35% louder I have three medical conditions that I can't walk more than 100 ft without losing my breath. The receptionist new this too she called the police and asked him to remove me for nothing I was discriminated against for my medical conditions and my handicap thank you Hilton for your service"
"Staff was friendly (especially the guy at night), breakfast was decent, but overall the hotel was quite dirty. The halls and main entrance looked like they never get vacuumed and the hard surface room floors were greasy. Had to wear shoes the whole time. Coffee area was never replenished during the day and kinda dirty too. Probably wouldn't stay again."
"I had a fabulous stay here! I called and they were able to let me in my room early! The room was fair size and the bed was comfortable. The pool is cold but fun if you have time to swim. It’s located next to a ton of food and shopping options. The front desk staff are very kind! The only issue I had is the containers for the soaps and shampoos are very difficult to use - they are a squeeze bottle and it was difficult for me to squeeze them."
