Holiday Inn Express Sault Ste. Marie, an IHG Hotel

"I travel for work and always stay at an IHG hotel. I have stayed at this property about a dozen or so times. I typically do not fill out reviews, however I do feel compelled to write one for this Holiday Inn specifically due to the poor management and customer service at this specific location. This hotel is aged and in need of renovations, but has typically been clean. When I get put on the higher level floors, the drains in the showers back up when using them, so by the time my shower is done, I am standing in 4-5” of water. This has happened on several occasions so it was not just a clogged drain in one room. In the winter time, the parking lot is never plowed, so you will have to walk through the snow/slush to get to your vehicle. One stay, my car was stuck in the parking spot due to the snow and had to have someone help push me out. This is the only hotel I have ever stayed at that would not accept my tax exemption for work for my stay. As I said earlier, I always stay at a holiday inn or holiday inn express when I travel and this has never been an issue….except with this location. One trip I had car issues and I was within the 24 hour cancellation period. I could not make it to the hotel that night and when asked to be reimbursed (as a gold member) I was told there was nothing they could do for me. (Not the end of thee world, but as a loyal rewards member, I expected better service). I have since traveled back to this location and the customer service has been poor each time. I highly recommend Holiday Inn hotels in every location that I have stayed at EXCEPT this one. The property itself is alright, but It is poorly managed, and the customer service is extremely poor."

"Staff was super helpful and friendly, highly recommend staying here. Breakfast was super yummy and well filled for a busy Sunday with multiple teams staying."

"Beware when making reservations woth Holiday Inn. They booked my canadian reservation in the United States. The Holiday Inn in Sault Ste. Marie charged my credit card without permission, committing fraud. The manager there Jackie refuses to refund the money for a mistake Holiday Inn made saying she doesn't want to loose money. At first she lied about her inability to refund saying it needs to go through guest services, and after being on numerous phonecards trying to retrieve my money it came back to her and now she claims she doesn't want to refund the money for a stay that never happened because it was mistakenly booked by them, as she doesn't want to loose money!!!! Never book Holiday Inn. This is theft!!!"

"Arrived at regular check-in time. Was informed of building wide smoke detector maintenance. At 2 am, the building lost power, causing every single smoke detector in the building to loudly beep every 10 seconds or so. Furthermore, about 10 or 15 minutes later, the smoke detectors all made incredibly irritating and unbearable screeching sounds for what seemed like all night. In the morning everything seemed normal and alright. The breakfast being served looked alright and acceptable. Not 10 minutes later I was stuck in the bathroom with extreme and violent diarrhea, but also vomited multiple times. I think that the location of the hotel is uncomparable for anyone needing to be close to Lake State. However, for the unforgivable state of operations at the hotel, I would never pay the $215 a night they charged again and I will never recommend this hotel to anyone ever again."

"Rooms were very clean, even the AC unit filter was clean. I always check those everywhere I go. The hotel itself is showing signs of its age but has been maintained. The hot tub which I was really looking forward to using was broken, floor around the pool is very slippery. Staff was very friendly and helpful. Breakfast was your typical 1-2 star microwave level food. Not terrible but also not very good. Over all it wasn’t a bad experience, much better than most that you find in the UP."
