Reviews of Manistee Inn & Marina
"Needs serious updates. No one at desk for over 1/2 hour when trying to check in and was therefore late to fishing guide trip. Huge bonus having fish deep freezers in basement. Not acceptable that elevator is and has been out of service "forever" per staff. Unacceptable to charge for rooms where you have to haul luggage up and down stairs when advertising working elevator. The plus is location location location, but really needs a serious update."
"We booked this place online with a request for a 2nd floor room with a river view (which is considered the street level). We called (Nov 3) to confirm our choice, and the attendant (a female whose name we don't remember) verified our request. Upon arrival to the establishment we were informed we had a downstairs room. We told the male attendant of our phone conversation (Nov 3) and request, which he then tried to accommodate us with at least a street level room (w/o a river view). The first room the heat was not working. The second one the same, plus the smoke detector was beeping. When we asked again if we could have an upstairs room with a view he said, although there were some, none were available because they all had early checkins the next day. There were a total of 2 cars in the parking lot that night (and the following morning). We resigned to the downstairs room, which at least had heat. There was a place to hang coats/clothes, but no hangers. We found an old container of food in the fridge. The caulk around the toilet was moldy. The bathroom walls were streaked and looked like they hadn't been washed in ages. The bed was comfortable, but sagged to the middle. The main room appeared clean enough. We doubt we'd ever stay there again. P.S. The toilet didn't flush well and clogged the day we left and no one was at the front desk to inform them. Ick."
"First thing that happened was we checked in behind a pretty obnoxious family with 3 little kids. As we were on vacation and like to sleep, I was already assuming this family would be next to us. Staff was sympathetic but couldn’t remember how far away they were from us. We paid for the king river view upgrade. Room 109, btw. Kindof surprised when we went ‘downstairs’, and entered the room, finding there was no carpet. But it smelled lovely- just clean, a hint of laundry, nothing weird or overpowering (very important because I get migraines most places we stay in). The toilet was doing constant run/drip, handle jiggle fixed it. And the view was fine, but honestly better from the upper parking lot. THEN we figured out where the kids were, screeching at the top of their effort down the super echoing hallway. 2 rooms away! Awesome. On our way to dinner I decided to ask the desk if they had any other open kings away from noise- she was so sweet and accommodating and offered to show us one upstairs she could move us to. I said we’d think about it over dinner. Decided to stay put, crossed fingers. We never heard the kids again! And the room stayed nice and dark with double drapes. Yes, the bed was pretty squishy but so cozy it was hard to get up. And the LG heat/ac unit was so great we are thinking about buying one! Overall a good place to stay in this lovely town, you’ll never run out of things to do. And good prices in the ‘off season’. But if you have desire for carpet in your room you should ask when you book, and skip the upgrade- just go do the river walk later, it’s nice even in the rain. Thanks, we’ll be back next year!"
"The location is great. Our room was on the bottom floor looking out the river and riverwalk. The rooms look very cute, boutique like. The lady at the front desk is super friendly. What I didn't like is that the blow dryer was covered with dust like it hasn't been wiped in months/years, if ever. But the worst part is the mattreses (it had yellow stains on it), they are so soft that they sink all the way to the floor with 2 people laying on that queen bed. I had a neck pain the next day, but had we stayed for more than 1 night I would ask for another room or go to a different hotel as sleeping in the "hammock" wrecks your spine up."
"The room we booked we paid extra for. It was listed as a “king suite” and it was not worth the upgrade. The room was rough, the tub looked marked and uncleaned, the ceiling had weird lines cut in it. A few pictures, mostly haphazardly put on the wall. Marks on the pain. The tipping point was a mattress that was too worn out to hold me up in bed. I’m a big guy 6’4 and it bent in the middle. The sign at the front desk said no early refunds. The property was kind to us leading up to our visit from the room. But, after messaging them that we were leaving on the app we used to make the reservation we never heard back from them. Probably worth it to fishermen and certain people but not worth it for an extended vacation stay. It’s a bummer. The location, the town, it’s all amazing. But they just don’t have nice facilities."
