"I flew down to visit my biological father, whom I had the pleasure of meeting for the first time back in 2019 (thank you Ancestry dot com!). One of his neighbors is a sweet lady named Candice who works at the bar/restaurant. Candice told us we should stop in for their Thursday evening special northern fried chicken. Oh, my goodness! That was. The. Best. Fried chicken I've ever eaten!!! It was crispy on the outside, tender and juicy on the inside. It practically fell off the bone. If you're ever near the Gogebic Lodge on a Thursday I highly recommend you treat yourself to their northern fried chicken! I wish there was someplace, here in Alaska, that made fried chicken that good."
"Honestly I wish I could rate it higher since the ?? I think manager was really nice, but she even made our experience not great in the end. To start we checked in to the hotel and our room wasn't cleaned, no big deal we are all human and mistakes happen. She was able to accommodate us immediately to a new cabin. I'm not a fan of moving places after 1 day and to another place but we were trying to be nice about the situation. Packed up our things in the AM and went hiking for the day, came back and our room was still not cleaned. Due to us having dogs we had to sit outside in 40 degree weather for over an hour while she cleaned our room at 6-730pm. We thought we'd make our night better by going to their "lobster boil" at night. Unfortunately didn't reserve it in time for the lobster, which I understand but I wish someone would've told us we needed to make reservations the day before. We got prime rib instead. We were able to make 8pm reservations while I was checking back in. Then they didn't have a table available for us when we got there. We had a rude couple try to tell us my dog was too loud, while we waited outside for our room. They gave us a free drink every night which the first night I was very happy about since they were able to accommodate us to a new room immediately. But this happened 2 nights in a row and when I first tried to tell someone about it the second night the waitress was incredibly rude to me saying she didn't have time for this nonsense and doesn't know what to do with me . Uhm, so were am I supposed to stay for the night? We didn't want to leave the lodge for the night so we could just chill and relax. We decided to get the prime rib. I've lived around the country and I'd say this was probably the worst and most expensive prime rib I've ever paid for. It was overcooked and not very tasteful. The au jus was very good which made it taste better but I have no idea why mushrooms on a prime rib would ever cost $4 more. Thankfully we got just some beers but it still took over 20 minutes from the time we asked for the check to the time it took us to check out. Honestly I only write reviews if I've had an absolutely terrible experience and it really seemed to just get worse and worse here. Was a fairly inexpensive place for a hotel and I see why. I still cant believe I spent $90 on prime rib with 1 $3.5 beer each. Not worth it. I'd highly suggest not coming back. I feel like there would be much more homely places here in town that would be a better experience."
"This is a review for the restaurant. The food was terrific tasting, but it took 2 1/2 hours from the minute we walked in, until we walked out, causing us to almost be without fire wood, as we planned to get the firewood after eating, thinking it’d take an hour tops. The waitress was flaky and was driving my husband nuts with her trying to start a conversation every time she happened to make it to our table, and also carrying on conversations with the regulars, despite her insisting she was “going as fast as she can”. She told my kids she didn’t have time to make more popcorn even though there were more empty tables that full. If you’re not in a hurry, then go here, but if you’re on a time crunch, stay away from this place."
"Totally disappointed after staying at Gogebic Lodge for 3 nights this week. First 3 bedroom chalet we moved into had non-working AC. The place was beat up by years of abuse with no repairs. My complaints were met with profanity by two locals drinking at the bar. The bartender told me to move to the next chalet “Pines” so we did. At least the AC worked! This place was also in total disrepair. We ate elsewhere as no one was eating in the restaurant. Go figure. The last time I stayed on Lake Gogebic at the Lodge was great! 20 years ago! Did not appreciate the disrepair and abuse I experienced! What a shame! I will never stay at the lodge in the future!"
"We were staying next door to the lodge in a rental unit. We walked over for dinner one evening. Cool bar with what seemed like a bunch of locals. We sat at bar. Lady ran the bar and waited on all the people in the dining room. She did a good job. I went with the Walleye sandwich and my cousin had the olive burger. Both of these are items that we are unfamiliar with down South. The fish sandwich was large but just average. Pretty sure fish was frozen. My cousin loved her olive burger and she gave me a bite and it was stellar. We got the onion rings for a starter and they said they were hand-breaded with a local lager batter. They were fantastic. You can play Keno and buy lottery tickets at bar. Depending on your seat you can have one heck of a view."
