"Master Tong is amazing and so are the other instructors. He sends out Remind notifications and uses a signup genius to limit class sizes. He offers private lessons, small group instruction and even Zooms! The facility is clean and squares are marked on the floor ensuring each person has their own specified workout area. The building is also well ventilated. My son loved the kid’s class so much that I even joined as an adult. You are only in competition with yourself. They work with all levels. Master Tong has owned this business for over 27 years and is doing everything he can to make you feel comfortable working out. I highly recommend this dojo even during a pandemic."

"When my family was looking for a karate dojo for my little brother, who was 6 at the time, we spent a long time looking at different schools. We chose Master Tong's Martial Arts, because the facility is much larger and nicer than other dojos in the area, and Master Tong himself is by far the most qualified-- He has a 7th degree black belt! Soon after my little bro was enrolled, I was jealous because of all the fun he was having, so I joined the adult class... and loved it! My brother and I, both in the adult class now, still train here almost 10 years later! All the people training there, and all the instructors, are so friendly and encouraging to each other. We help each other practice our techniques, and the higher belt ranks often help the younger ones. The sense of positivity and community from this school is crazy! I never expected a form of exercise could be so rewarding. You can tell that Master Tong and the instructors really care about each kid and each student. The kids really look up to them, too. It's adorable! As for the exercising, you will definitely get a workout! I remember being surprised when I discovered how much of a full body workout one class can give you. That being said, Master Tong and his instructors know how to work with students who have special cases, so everyone can get a good workout and learn, even if they have a bad knee or back, for example. They even have a class for seniors! And the karate I've learned can actually be used in real-world situations. Being a petite female walking through my college campus at midnight used to be terrifying, but now I feel more confident with the ability to protect myself. The dojo has a great way of teaching good morals, too. Things that will help with karate, but also school and life in general. We learn discipline, courtesy, and an attitude to never give up (just to name a few!) I've been here for a while and I can say that I've seen, first-hand, these good morals affecting the students, especially the kids. It's amazing to see the kids growing up and becoming responsible and respectful, something that our society sometimes has trouble teaching kids these days. I think a lot of it has to do with the good influence the instructors set for the kids... the instructors are just wonderful role models! Because of the time I'm writing this review, I feel like I need to mention the whole Covid situation. When everything was force-shut down, I was distraught that I could no longer train at the dojo. But then, Master Tong started up digital Zoom classes! So even stuck in quarantine, we were(and currently still are) able to train from home. Now the dojo is back open, and the instructors and Master Tong are being really careful about social distancing and keeping everyone safe. They came up with good ways to keep the lobby from getting crowded, and have separated square spots for each student to stand in, so they stay far enough apart. Any equipment they use gets sanitized immediately, and they wash the floors and lobby every night. So I think they are doing a good job! All I can say about it is that they are working hard, and I feel safe training there. Currently there aren't any senior classes happening, just as a precaution. But the Zoom classes are still happening, so whether or not you feel comfortable going in to the dojo, you can still train! I think there are some super worried people out there who don't want to come in, so I think it's wonderful that Master Tong still has the Zoom classes! :) It's a really confusing, stressful time with this whole Covid thing happening, and this transitional time between lockdown and regular life. So it's great knowing the instructors meet up often and are always working on new plans to make sure everyone is safe. I'm sorry I wrote so much! (Especially about the Covid, what a downer!) I don't usually write reviews, but since I love this place I felt it was time to let everyone else know. I suppose if you truly love something, you'll just talk and talk about it!"

"Master Tong has been tought in Detroit country day many years. My son wanted to join his class since he was prek-3. He finally able to attend his class from 1st grade which meet their school age request. Now he is grade 3 and he still loves him so much! He also requested attend Mater Tong's summer camp couple times which he had great fun ! He would only love to learn karate with Master Tong. What I love about him is his class is highly demand but also very fun !"
