Reviews of Detersmination Equestrian Center
"I highly recommend detersmination farm!! Dale and Gabrielle work hard and really care about the horses. They have done a terrific job helping me rehab my belgian gelding that I pulled from the kill pen. They went out of their way to accommodate us during a very busy time in their life. Not only has my horse reached and maintained a healthy weight, his wounds have healed up beautifully thanks to their care and attention. They have a lot of knowledge and are very down to earth. I would definitely recommend this boarding facility."
"This review is strictly of the farm board offered off site with Gabrielle Deters, I cannot speak to the quality of the Equestrian Center. I had two geldings (4yo and 15yo) boarded at the Deters’ farm from June 2020 to August 2020 and I wish I never would have taken them there. I found out a few months ago I was still dealing with repercussions from their time at this facility. My horses were both in good condition when brought to the facility and it took 2 months at this farm to become significantly malnourished. Photos listed with dates. When I inspected the farm and asked questions ahead of time I was told there would be no more than 4 horses per pasture and by the time I pulled the boys there were 8. I was also told they would not be fed on the ground and when I went to see my boys I found the horses all eating from piles of grain in the dirt. There was also a burn pile full of trash within the pasture at one point during their stay. When I brought up that my older boy was starting to look ribby she passed it off as stress due to the heat that summer. I asked her to increase grain, but it was clear the horses were never watched or separated for graining and the food was tossed in piles in the dirt. My horses were not the only ones there in poor condition by the time I removed them. My older horse had also clearly developed significant diarrhea and I was not notified; so much so that he developed pelvic limb edema and fecal scald. As soon as I realized how terrible the care was, I removed my horses ASAP. I should have said more to the owner, but I was so disappointed and just wanted to get them out of there. My equine dentist had been out just prior to my boys going to board here and all was good. During their annual dental this year I found out that due to the poor hay quality from this facility. The older of the two had sticks stuck in between the teeth and weakening of the periodontal ligament due to this, which can lead to premature tooth loss in horses. Fortunately we were able to treat them and they are back on track. I was devastated to discover that subjecting them to 2 months of boarding in Nunica was still causing issues. I would avoid the farm board at all costs as I have never seen such poor care and my horses have never looked as badly as they did after only 2 months there. I am a veterinary professional and can only describe what was done to my horses as complete neglect. They are both in good health again today, but I don’t want others to put their horses through the same thing. I strongly encourage looking elsewhere for farm/pasture board."
"My horse and I had a great experience boarding here! I recently moved him closer to where I live, but if I could've moved closer I definitely would have kept him here! The owners are great and the other boarders are all friendly and very helpful. I'm a first time horse owner and the others gave me such good advice! I was invited on trail rides and it helped my horse and I feel at home. Lessons were affordable, along with the board, Gabe really helped me out, she speaks her mind and that helped me more than she'll know, she didn't candy coat stuff, she cut right down on the issues and I liked that. Also while being there my horse needed to gain weight and they told me what to buy and added it to his feedings for me and he looks great now! We will miss it here! Thank you for everything you guys! Johanna and Manny/Manor."
"My children have taken lessons with Gabe on their horses on and off for over 5 years. My son has some mild physical and processing challenges and Gabe is very patient teaching him. I have taken classes, too. Sometimes even adults need a refresher on figuring out a new horse. You can take lessons in English, Western and cart/driving. You can take your lessons on any kind of horse. I have had my Paso Fino, Paint, Standardbred and Quarter Horse out there for lessons. Gabe is very knowledgeable about many breeds of horses, mules and draft. The paddocks are spacious, horses are on dirt and grass, shelters. lots of fresh air. DEC has a big out round pen, nice stalls and huge indoor arena with good footing. Gabe and Ruth run a very responsible barn and manage the horses extremely well. Excellent care and knowledge. When I retirement from managing my own farm, DEC is my backup plan for caring for my horses."
"I cannot say enough about my barn family. I am so happy at Detersmination Equestrian Center (DEC) enjoying my horse compulsion, and both the owner Ruth and trainer Gabe do not encourage withdrawal!!!! I love this place, and will be there as long as I am able to have a horse!!!!!! Ruth is downright intuitive about horse care, knowing when a food increase or decrease will provide the horse optimum health. She really cares, and we can see that enthusiasm in every shiny horse and every happy horse owner!!! I love the daily turnout, where every horse gets to be a herd-horse for at least 8 hours a day! Gabe is our trainer, with so much experience we are lucky to be her students!!! DEC will always be the place where I want to be!!!"
