Reviews of Great Lakes Foot and Ankle Institute
"Update: Called main billing office. I believe Cindy was who answered, extremely rude. She was argumentative, I was at work & never even raised my voice, but she aggressively asked, “so if you had known the test was to check for cancer you wouldn’t have checked to see if your child had cancer! Then what, if your kid did have cancer & we didn’t do the test you’d call us all mad too?!” So, I know what kind of people I’m dealing with. She said she would transfer me to her supervisor Heidi to leave a message. Of course it went right to a generic robot voicemail, which I found odd. And what do you know, I never received a call back from “Heidi”. Sorry, lengthly. My son had 4 ingrown toenails, all infected. He had been seen by an urgent care, was running track which made them worse, and then we were scheduled as new patients here. When we came to the office the first time, while getting my son’s history, the med assistant asked, “would you mind if we sent what we remove to our lab? We like to send out anything we remove from the body.” Sure, I guess why not. Sounded like it was for “research” or medical purposes. Then Dr. Lamar came in, looked at his toes for a couple minutes and got to removing the corners. I thought they removed them all, but we later realized they only removed 3. The doctor said he would need to come back for a chemical removal process so they don’t grow back in the same manner. Three of the corners started to heal, one was not. This is when my son said I don’t think she removed this corner. I said she had to have removed it, they were all ingrown, why would she leave one? So, we went back for his recheck and while there we asked about the 4th corner. “No, it’s fine, it’s just irritated because I removed some skin, the irritation will go down. We’ll see you in a few weeks for the chemical removal.” A week later, his toe was not better. So, I call… of course we have to go in, this is the 3rd time taking off work and 3rd time paying a copay. Medical assistant asked my husband same lab question, he said sure, why not. Then dr comes in, “yup, toe is infected, we never removed that corner”… I know! I asked that at his second appointment!!! So another removal and a “see you in a couple weeks for his chemical procedure”. The day before his procedure we get the reminder call and a bill. A bill? For nearly $500! For an in-house lab for toenails!? So I call and talk to Shannon. Shannon chuckled and said, “I can see her asking that way, but she meant nothing sneaky by it. Yes she should have presented it as an option, but she didn’t mean it. And please know that you can make payments on that bill.” I asked if there was anything they could do because it wasn’t presented as an option, it sounded like a “do you care if we send out something we take off your child” question. Not a, “we’re going to bill your insurance and your portion will be nearly $500” question. Doesn’t seem fair. I was told there was nothing they could do because they billed my insurance. She told me a portion was written off. My insurance told me no, BCBS paid a portion and that I should dispute the claim. So, this was the day before my son’s procedure. My husband gets my son to his appointment the next day before 8am. Pays another copay. Dr comes in, takes a quick look and says, “oh, toes look great. He doesn’t need any chemical procedure. Call us of they turn red.” REALLY!? For the past 3-4 appointments he needed this procedure but ironically the day before I question a bill and all the sudden he’s good? Guess what, this was a month and a half ago and his toes are…you got it, ingrown, infected, and bleeding. Now we are starting ALL over at another foot doctor, paying more copays, and taking more time off work and school. All of those appointments and copays were a waste of time, money, and worst of all my son’s starting all over with pain and having to have procedures done all over again. And we’re still getting a $485 bill for the way the med assistant asked a question! Never again. I’m now waiting to talk to someone from their IL office."

"I have been here a few times for my feet. Visited in high school for running, and came in today for an ingrown toenail. I swear to anyone who read this, Great Lakes is the place to go for feet and ankles. I recommend seeing Dr. Grant. AMAZING bedside manner. She is thorough, and super down to Earth. And, she will literally remember your last visit. Highly highly recommend going here!"
"My entire experience from check in to check out, was the worst I've ever had in my entire life. And I am almost 50 and I've never been treated So terribly and taken advantage of so much then I was at this place. I felt so bad for The assistant in the room helping the Doctor because she could see my face and really did try to help me. I would absolutely not recommend this place to anybody."
"I actually have nothing but good comments for Great lakes. Dr. Grant is extremely thorough, explains in detail your prognosis and way forward. Her upbeat personality is very refreshing and gives you hope going into the future. thanks for all your help Doc."
