"My son gets treated on the 11th floor. The day nurses are amazing. The night nurses not a big fan of. I feel like they walk around with a bad attitude. They don't care to talk to you. A couple of them are nice and and friendly. Makes it really hard to trust them when they come Into your room with a rude face and literally say nothing to you. That's my son they are caring for and I feel like I have to constantly watch them because I dont trust them. I just feel like they are a little less careless when it comes to his care. I barely get sleep because of it everytime they come in the room i have to wake up and make sure my son is safe.. All the doctors are amazing. They treat my son with care and love. The day nurses are always so friendly and really bring a smile to my sons face. Even on his really hard days. He has a couple more treatments left and he will be cancer free. We use to love coming up til I had a few bad experiences with night shift. now I cant stand being here. One of the worst was my son was choking and I needed help it took them a min to answer the call light, after i complained about it.the charge nurse gave me a lesson about how to use the call light. Instead of apologizing. She just tried to make it seem like i was crazy. They never apologized for leaving my son crib down. Think God my fear of sleeping when they are in the room worked. Because I was awake in bed and never heard her put his crib up. So I did. That could have been a lawsuit if I didn't wake up and he fell out. I told on her and now she gives me dirty looks every time she sees me and tries to avoid my sons room. Instead of apologizing for puting my sons life in danger. I have more stories about the carelessness of level 11 cancer floor night shift nurses."
"We had to come here for my son to get surgery and despite the unfortunate circumstances we had a wonderful experience. The doctors and nurses kept us informed and explained things in a way a non-medical professional could understand. As the parent they made me feel very comfortable. In our rush to get to Iowa City from Dubuque I forgot a lot of my toiletries and they were able to provide some for me. They took great care of our son and followed up after we left to make sure all was going well. I felt confident that my son was in the best hands."
"I had hip surgery on my right leg/hip here back in May. I have another hip surgery coming up in November on my left leg/hip. Dr. Willey and Dr. Westermann are 2 of the best doctors I have ever had. Thanks to them my hip finally stopped hurting. The hospital is beautiful and child friendly. Doctors and nurses have excellent bedside manner!"
"Employees are not paid fairly. Bare minimum raises that do not compete with inflation while executive make hundreds of thousands more. Benefits are not compatible to private sector and should not be considered in negotiations. Work environment is extremely hostile and HR will screw you over. Retaliation is a reality here. I left and will never look back. The healthcare provided here is not even too 10% in the country (although allegedly ranked best in Iowa)."
"One of the finest children's hospitals in the world, right next to University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics across from kinnick stadium in Iowa City. The best place to park for the children's hospital is ramp number 2. The entrance to which is underground right as you're coming in the main hospital entrance, directly in front of Stead."
