Reviews of Grand Traverse Children’s Clinic
"Absolutely impossible to get anyone on the phone or speak to a nurse for a sick child appointment. The office has been going down hill for a few years and it getting worse and worse."
"Used to be a great doctors office but has taken a turn for the worst in the last few years. Many of the office staff are rude and ruthless. It seems that older children get cut from services quite easily."
"I went to this doctors office growing up, & my parents never had an issue. With my children, i never had an issue until COVID started. First it started with being on hold for a very long time. Then if my child was sick(non flu like/COVID symptoms.) i had to call the DAY OF, i couldnt schedule an appointment for a day or two later when i had the day off… i had to call the day of to see if there was POSSIBLY an opening. Which normally there never was. Then it got even worse when i brought my daughter in for her THREE YEAR CHECK UP. DR CHIMNER looks at me & says “no offense, but she is overweight” … excuse me? She is three years old, she also has an iron deficiency, & her father is over six foot, & our son is also very tall. She stated that just because her father is very tall, that that has nothing to do with her.. (My daughters new doctor says that you cannot consider BMI when she is three due to her still growing, that you can include the fact her dad is very tall & that she also has a deficiency) She even put on her summary about exercise counseling, ect. I was horrified. I still am. They ended up giving me a liquid iron supplement for her & she kept throwing it back up bc it made her belly upset. I called them over & over again, telling them i no longer wanted dr chimner to have anything to do with my child bc she was so cold & rude. They ignored me. They also ignored me when i asked them if there was ANYTHING else we could give her to help with her iron. They stated that i needed to keep giving it to her, even if she threw up. That they know it can upset her stomach, but i needed to “get over it”. I was irate. The last phone call, they ended up telling me that i needed to figure out what worked for her & to let them know. No follow ups, no call backs, nothing. My FINAL straw was when my son went in for his physical for kindergarten. They gave him an eye exam, which he has never done before & was more interested in the puppy tape that was on the floor to stand at, & the thing he was holding over his other eye. In the smaller parts, he called the “house” a “triangle” (which i was so proud of him for doing because it was his first eye exam, & i consider that a huge win for him being five!) they failed him for his eye exam. When i explained that he has an IEP in school, he is going to speech therapy, & also has an eye tracking issue, & gets extra help in school. The nurse insisted i get him evaluated for autism. I told her no, that i was not comfortable at that time to get it done bc he is only 5, & he is thriving, doing much better each & everyday. He is getting plenty of help at home & also at school. She still insisted on the referral. I kept telling her no. The next day i get a call from the nurse about a referral for autism EVEN THOUGH I MADE IT CLEAR I DID NOT WANT ONE AT THIS TIME. I have never been so dissatisfied & hurt by a doctors office. MOST (not all of them) are very cold, rude & do not listen at all what so ever to what you as a parent are saying. They also seem to just not care, at all. We have switched doctors, & i am much happier as our new doctor listens, is very patient, nice & says my babies are growing/ weighing the correct numbers for their individual situations. She also states that the autism diagnosis is not needed as long as i do not want one due to him thriving & HE ALSO PASSED HIS EYE EXAM AND STILL CALL THE “HOUSE” A “TRIANGLE”! I hope & pray that this finds the right person.. & these doctors/nurses can be spoke with about these issues."
"Doctors are nice. No complaints there. We see Doctor Bush and Doctor Elms and they’re sweet, caring ladies. What’s extremely frustrating are the systems this office has in place. No one calls you to let you know it’s time for your next visit. You also cannot schedule your next visit before you leave. A vague “call us back in a couple months” is all the instruction you get, and then you’re crossing your fingers that they have something available in close proximity to the child’s birthday. Currently, my kids 3-year well-child is scheduled a full two months after her third birthday. Have to take time off work for it because there is no such thing as an appointment past 4 pm. If the dentist can manage to schedule an appointment for six months out before you leave the office, why the heck can’t this office manage the same thing? Six month appointments but only a four month scheduling system? Makes no sense. Not to mention, the phone lines are ALWAYS busy. I don’t think I’ve ever spoken to someone without waiting 10 minutes first. I just don’t understand how a business for children is so unaccommodating to working parents."
"Currently in the process of switching care to TACAP, such a difference in service already and we haven’t even scheduled an appointment yet! The doctors seem to do a good job here, but the nurse’s (Nancy to be specific) are horrible! I called over the course of 3 days when my newborn was sick, and we were monitoring her condition day by day without an appointment unless her fever spiked. On the 3rd day her fever went up to 104 and she developed a full body viral rash, she was lethargic and I called them to come in right away per their previous instructions. Because it was Saturday, they closed at 12, it was 11am and Nancy told me in the rudest tone possible that I had to get there in 15 minutes or they would not let me in because and I quote “We want to leave on time today” So my child, who I’m terrified for as a newborn in the middle of a pandemic, comes second to you leaving on time today Nancy? I understand wanting to leave on time, but her attitude was entirely unnecessary and we were in and out BEFORE closing time. The same nurse, told me I HAD to have a physical copy of her insurance for this last minute appointment even though she’s a newborn and they have the policy number on file and we don’t have physical cards from our insurance yet. Every time I have called to schedule an appointment or ask a question as first time parents do, Nancy has replied rudely and condescendingly without fail. This office feels cold and uncaring. Our insurance has confirmed twice that it’s up to date and we did give them the physical copy as soon as we received it but for some reason they couldn’t figure it out for 2 months and yep Nancy acted like I was the worst mother in the world the entire time even though I gave her all the correct information. TACAPS so far has been the opposite, even getting medical records from Grand Traverse has been difficult! They never give up on disappointing you I guess."
