Reviews of Detroit Public Schools
"This school is very secretive. I can drop my child off at school but I cannot enter the building under any circumstance even to bring my child food or even just walk him to class in the morning. I was told that parents are becoming a distraction to teachers the only way to talk with your child’s teacher is by appointment. I know my child is learning at a slower pace then other children but is forced to learn at higher learning levels if my child needs special education and this is not something this school offers I would like to know. So I speak to the teacher if she may have a second passing by at let out. I even had a phone call about the situation, which gave me a little more understanding how things work in her kindergarten classroom. My heart skipped a beat when I found out my at the time 4 yr. old walked off of the playground and walked across the street without someone stopping him at the gate. I was told by the assistant principal that none of the other kids had ever tried to do something to that extent and that my son was the only kid to try that.We were both left clueless as to why my son did it but safety is one of my greatest concerns when it comes to my child. I had a talk with my son now 5 yrs. old and told him that it wasn’t ok he explained his reasoning for why he did it and he now understands to never do it again.A meeting was well needed in my opinion. I strongly feel that the school needs to help the students understand not to walk out of the gate on the playground before allowing them to enter the area. I don’t like bullying but it’s happening inside of the school.I haven’t had one adult in the school address me about my son being bullied but he tells me it’s happened I just pray every day that he comes home unharmed. I don’t want to be a worried parent. I get shut down by staff because of the attitudes in the atmosphere creates unhealthy conversations or either no conversation at all they won’t even let you speak. It’s really shocking to see how they interact with visitors, parents, and even the students."
"This school is Rude disrespectful like this is my first time going to the school for my children never had a problem at any school they lost my child for 30 minutes then the teacher is hitting on my child like this school is disrespectful I give them no stars if I couldMy son is nine years old he has tumors on his back my daughter she’s five years old it’s a lot of people out here that’s kidnapping kids like come on now y’all gotta have better communication then I’ll try to make it seem like it’s all you but when you come in they catch the attitude OK you can go off the wall for your child and that’s exactly what I did"
"Don’t come to this school it’s terrible esp the principal"
"This school is not one I would recommend to anyone who has not been in a Detroit school before, however some of the teachers deans and staff are nice. And are willing to help you if you have a problem but because of the ghetto kids can make learning difficult as well as severe bulling some kids face at this school it is a school not to go to if you have never been to Detroit a teacher came behind me while I was in the elevator and hit me on my head then yelled at me to get out I feel she should have not put her hands on me and could have dealt the situation in a different matter"
