Reviews of William D. Ford Career-Technical Center
"This place is okay the assistant principal is way too nosey. He kept asking one of my friends if I was okay? His name was Daniel Calhoun. I get that he was concerned but if he wanted to know how I was he should've just asked me directly or just left the subject alone. I was there to learn not to be bothered by wannabe 1st year students or by rude nosey assistant principals. I tried to tell him my side of the story but he wouldn't have it. I told him that the first year just like me was trying to boss me around. Then when the same girl was trying to help me clean up I told her to leave me alone because I was still upset with her for trying to boss me around. When she had no real authority to do so.Then he told me that I need to work on my teamwork. Which bothered me because I was trying. Really creepy and weird. Needs to mind their own business. The staff plays favorites and they aren't fair with the grading if you ask me. A lot of the students who took culinary arts and hospitality didn't even take the class seriously. Then you had some students who were trying to act like teachers even though they were only 1st year students with no real authority. Hello let the teachers do their jobs and mind your own business. It's sad too because I took this class for fun and I took the class more seriously then some of the other students did just to get credits. It's ridiculous. If you ask me the staff should kick students out who aren't going to take the class seriously. Also students shouldn't take this class if they aren't going to take it seriously. Consider this program a privilege that can easily be taken away, if you don't act like an adult and let the teachers do their jobs. Know your place if you're a first year then really you have no real authority. If you're a second year student then it's different especially if the teacher or teachers allow you to help direct the class as they see fit. Don't take this class if all you're looking for is an easy way to get credits. It's disrespectful to the teachers who use their time to teach students who actually want to learn more about the field. Also I hope that the vice principal or the person above him reads this. I'm disappointed in such behavior by the staff and students."
"I had a child attend the career center. Halfway through the year, another mom picked my child up and took her back to her home (my child was supposed to get on a bus and go back to her school) without my knowledge or consent. I had no idea she was not where she was supposed to be. To make a long story short - the police were contacted about the other mom. The career center has no teacher/aide or anything in place to monitor that the children here who are supposed to be going back to their school, are actually getting on a bus and doing so. Upon learning of this - I made sure to contact her high school so that we could monitor her getting on/off the bus. If you send your child here be aware of this. Make sure you have a plan with their high school. Obviously William D. Ford doesn't care what happens once the kids walk out the door."
"I attended william D. Ford for 2 years. After the first year, I knew I just had to go back. I was In the early childhood teacher education program and the teachers were absolutely wonderful. They would drop anything they were doing to make sure we had what we needed. The teachers cared and loved each and every student.(including the preschoolers) if I could go back for another year, I would. Just the feeling of being there was so welcoming. The program would brighten my day. And the children knew how to put a smile on your face. Mrs.vaughan helped many of her students move up in the career by getting them into jobs based on what she taught them. Mrs. Vaughan is the first teacher I actually learned anything from. she didn't only teach curriculum. She taught many life lessons as well. All throughout high school, I truly believe Mrs. Vaughan is by far the best I have had. And I had many teachers. I really recommend going Into the program if you're still in high school and your school offers it. Or if you are looking for a preschool for your child, sunshine and rainbows preschool is the place to go!! It hurts my feelings that I see such hateful reviews just because the students didn't get their way. The people who left hateful reviews forgot to add that they were bullying the girl who "stole" and Mrs. Vaughan seen what they were doing to the girl. The wasn't any proof the girl stole. They checked her bags and pockets and found nothing. So the people who left hateful reviews are mad they didn't get their way. Mrs. Vaughan doesn't play "favoritism". She just doesn't feed into the drama. She puts a stop to it. Mrs.vaughan delt with the issue all year and she got tired of it because we are all supposed to be grown ups. Mrs. Vaughan is there to teach you how to be a teacher, not deal with your drama. Grow up and act like an adult instead of acting like one of the preschoolers."
"I love Mrs.Vaughn, she is wonderful teacher who cares about each individual child. I would just like to point out that most of the bad reviews on here are from her high school students, they hated her throughout the year. Although I have a different opinion than them, they have decided to try and give this program a bad rep. I would just like to say that what they are doing and how they represent the program is not how the rest of us are. There are a bad couple in every bunch! I love this program, I've learned so very much and I've found my passion here."
"I really loved the child care class my junior year. But, my senior year was terrible here. I had the worst experience. Mrs.vaughn gave us book work but it stopped in october but expected us to be tested on it including both finals. In addition to that she also showed favoritism to a girl that got accused of stealing. Mrs.vaughn will sit in her office and talk about the students like shes in high school, which she clearly isn't she's teaching it, she also sits by the door to listen to your conversations instead of grading which she doesn't ever do until last minute and she grades based on how she feels about you. When the second years asked if they could attend a field trip with the rest of the class she told us no but then let the girl who stole go, who is a second year, on the field trip and when we asked why we couldn't she told us she did not have to give us an explanation. So, me and 5 others talked to mr. Calhoun about the situations he said he would talk to her. Then days later when we asked about what she told mr. Calhoun he told us to ask her. So the second years never got a real reason on why we couldn't go. Then after the last field trip a huge argument happened in the class because the girl who stole was talking about how she got accused of stealing to a parent of one of the preschoolers when we weren't suppose to talk about it at all. Then mr. Calhoun came down to the class and said we can't video tape him talking and told us that if we did he would sue us because it's illegal. Then he told us mrs. Vaughn is a great teacher. And he would do exactly what she's doing. Then in the end basically they showed favoritism to the girl who stole because she never got suspended for talking about it but if we did mrs. Vaighn, said she would suspend us for 3 days. Then for our last final she told us it would be based on things we learned In the preschool room and that she would go over it with the class. And once we got the review it was the exact same rest we took a couple months before based on book work and once someone asked her if they could answer some questions she told them she would not be going over the review. There are so many more situations that I could talk about but the review is already long enough. So, In the end I would never recommend this program to anyone and I wouldn't recommend anyone to go to this school. The staff is ridiculous, they play favorites and act like they care when they do not. You are not getting taught anything in the child care class except how to make a plan sheet when you are suppose to be getting taught more than that. Mrs. Vaughn is the laziest and rude teacher I have ever had in my high school career. She brags to other teachers about how "the seniors tried to get her fired" but in the end we just wanted to be treated equally and be taught what we should be. But in the end we were let down by the teachers and principals."
