"I believe a building is only a part of what 'school' is...it is the teachers, the parent involvement, the student's attitude and inherent abilities (and disabilities), the chemistry of the particular classroom the child is placed into by fate, and all the surrounding factors like home life, love life, work, personal interests, sports, clubs and other extra curricular involvement that makes up an 'educational experience.' School is what you make of it. It always has been, and always will be. A teacher is there to provide guidance to the students' willingness to learn. An excellent school for one student can be a nightmare for the next... My children excelled in Ypsi Public Schools their first 6 years and they excelled in Lincoln schools their last 6... My daughter walked away with enough scholarships through Lincoln to pay for almost her entire first year of college, and the scholarships are still coming in in August! If you pursue excellence you will find it. Period. Lincoln did my children well, counseling took so much time with my daughter, but it is because she pursued their guidance...you can drag a horse to water, but you can't make them drink! In turn my children have become a part of the Splitter legacy, and Im proud of the values Lincoln has instilled in my children and the values they brought to the table themselves. It's just too bad that silly reviews written by disgruntled parents or students (who probably weren't doing their part to do their best or cooperate mind you) could make or break a decision of a perspective family to a new district. School is what it is: It is your job to embrace it!"
"I could go on about the school. Terrible administation, the classes are eh, students are rude, the control of the students are bad, the building itself is in bad shape, communication is bad... I left half way through my freshman year and I do not regret it. I should also mention that my Algebra 1 teacher wasn't suppose to be an algerbra teacher, and got fired as soon as we all failed the class at the end of the 1st semester (Thanks for letting me retry that test several times. I finally got it at Arbor Prep)."
"Alright, most of what I have to say is negative but there are a few good teachers in the school. They actually care about students, woah how surprising. I graduated from the class of 2014, so my experiences are recent. I really hated being there. Everyone was rude and hurtful. The students were so disrespectful to teachers and teachers hardly did anything to help students in the first place. The principal Holden couldn't do her job right, she was even suspended from what I heard. They wouldn't do anything about my friend that was be harassed by someone in the beginning of the year. They were breaking into he locker and messing with her belongings. How is that okay? Why couldn't they do something about it? Of course then I had to sit in class with the likely culprit while they say horrible things about my friend. It was really hard for me to feel motivated to go to a school like this. Nothing was ever clean, the bathrooms were the worst place to be. One of the toilets was constantly clogged by a bag of cheetos, more often than not there wasn't toilet paper. And how is one supposed to clean their hands without soap? At least the later part of my day I had a Saline High School class. I enjoyed that very much. I hope my brothers have a better experience than I do. I recommend sending your kid to a better school than this. It felt like a waste of my time."
"Undoubtedly this is one of the worst, if not the worst, school you can put your child in. Every year has different staff, mainly a different principal. To make matters worse, the most recent one Ms. Holden is as incompetent as the entire student body. Zero tolerance for bullying they say. The moment you step into the school, you see the horrible way students treat others. You see the horrible way students treat teachers and how teachers treat students. No, not every student or teacher is bad, but the good most certainly does not outweigh the bad. For the love of friendship and magic, why can't something be done about this? Why do more people not protest? WHY IS THIS SCHOOL STILL AROUND? Unfortunately no one is willing to do anything about it. That is very sad to me."
"This school is just dreadful. The principle hates children and let's the teacher be on their cell phones texting, facebooking, ect, while the children in the class are still reprimanded for doing the same. I quote "The rules change when you become an adult." What kind of example is that setting for the kids, not to mention the fact it's just cruel. The school apparently has this "zero-tolerance" on bullying when it took several trips to the office before the bully was finally confronted, and what does she get? A slight slap on the wrist! Unbelievable! This is not the kind of environment I want my daughter in! The bathrooms are all in a state of decay and some of the stalls' locks aren't even installed right! They are installed upside down! They never have paper towels and even when they do, you'l be lucky if they have soap. Toilet paper seems to be a luxury. Despite the number of school days they have missed, they do still have school on dangerously cold or icy days. Kids had to stand outside in -20 degree weather the other day. I wouldn't send my daughter to school in that weather, especially since the buses are usually late. That was not the kind of temperature people should be standing around in, even in winter gear. The counselors are a joke. My daughter had 3 new schedules last year in the first week because they continually changed her classes without her knowledge or consent."
