"Those adventurous enough to visit and make the effort to locate the shop to spend ample time digging, will be rewarded with a pile of music they have probably never seen before. If you're into electronic music, library music, house, trance, drone, ambient, avantgarde jazz, and other outside of the mainstream "experimental" styles, this is the place for you. And... if you're not, come anyway and spend some time exploring music that you didn't even knew existed. Be humbled by learning how little you know about music. Take a chance and bring something new home to listen to. Embrace the weird. You never know... A visit to this very specific curated collection of sound (and plants) may just change your mind."
"So glad I stopped in here, what a cool hidden gem for electronic music enthusiasts! If you're looking for rock albums, do not go here. if you're looking for a Deep House, left field, ambient, or experimental electronic record, Go here."
"What an amazing music store! Though not considered weird to me, a lot of people might consider the genres sold here to be "Weird". But really you can find more obscure and/or avant-garde titles here. The shop is located in the 78th Street Studios building on the 2nd floor. It is easy to find if you just view the directories placed throughout the building. But, it might actually be more fun if you do get lost inside the building before you find Bent Crayon as there is so much else worth seeing. Bent Crayon has a large selection of vinyl and cds and a small selectionof books and publications. John, who i am assuming is the owner is super nice and incredibly knowledgeable. He is familiar with every album in the store! I've lived in Cleveland for 4+ years and I 9nly discovered Bent Crayon a couple weeks ago. Such a travesty! But it is probably good for my savings account that I didn't find the store earlier in my Cleveland life. The space is compact but it is filled with thousands of albums. This store is a must visit for any music love that is in Cleveland for any amount of time and when not here there is even a website!"
"I really wanted to spend money here, however my experience was not a good one. The clerk was engaged in a conversation with another customer, and never greeted my son and I, asked if he could assist us, or thanked us for coming to the record shop. We were there for 15-20 minutes. I can only imagine that he thought we were simply looking for current pop music hits, when in fact I am a radio program host & producer, and my teenage son is very knowledgeable about electronic music. We wanted to spend money at this place, but were given the cold shoulder. If you decide to visit Bent Crayon, please know that none of the inventory is priced, which I find very peculiar. There may be some type of organization, but it is difficult to follow. The clerk certainly didn't offer any assistance, even as we looked at the stacks of records that cover the counter. We may as well have been invisible. Good luck, Bent Crayon. I won't waste any of my time or money at your shop."
"It was hard to find on my first visit, hidden away through all kinds of art galleries and studios, but it's definitely worth the search. If you like electronic music or just find that most record stores are too pedestrian for your tastes, then this is a must-visit store. The atmosphere is great and the prices are fine. The owner was very nice and I left with a great deep house record I'd never found in a record shop until now."
