"DO NOT USE THIS BUSINESS.One star is generous! A) They asked for all the money upfront! (Live and learn!) B) No contract. New house that needed all new flooring. $20,000 later and we still need new flooring! The experience we had with this place was an absolute nightmare. I will write about a few that stand out, but know there was WAY more than documented here! The first two subcontractors they sent were never on time, didn't show or only stayed for an hour. Taking off work for this type of service is infuriating. Those subcontractors installed our carpet and I asked if they were doing our hardwoods too. One said they'd never installed hardwood so we'd have someone else for the hardwood. Fast forward to hardwood installation, who do you think arrived? You guessed it! The contractor who said he'd never installed hardwood! After listening to them talk and making unnecessary cuts to our very expensive hickory floors, my husband made the call to NOT have them come back and get us a contractor that knows what they are doing. They did send a new contractor that was great at installing our hardwoods but did not level the floors, he laid mats to try and level (I believe he was told to get in and out as fast as possible), so now our hardwood floors sound worse than a 150 years old house! They squeak every step you take, bounce in places and have uneven areas. As a customer, when I pay for a product I expect the experts to do their job and let me, as the homeowner, know issues and what needs to be done so my investment lasts! Basically Wilmington Carpet sent a contractor to lay hardwoods but DID NOT do what a flooring company should do and let the customer know that the subfloor needed to be replaced and the floors need to be leveled completely before laying our expensive hardwoods to ensure years of quality and enjoyment. NEXT, we began noticing a hump in the basement in the NEW carpet they installed! THEN, we began vacuuming and the carpet immediately began coming up from the perimeter! This caused me to investigate around the house and when I would barely grab the carpet at the perimeter every area pulled away from the wall. We called to have the issues resolved and the insanity continued. Call after call to get the carpet tended to. Finally, someone was called out to fix it. They set a stretcher against the base of our bar and broke the wood base, then set the rusty stretcher on the carpet causing a rust stain. My husband asked them to leave. We had the owner stop by to look at everything. He said he would have someone come fix the bar, which he did. However, this contractor yelled at my husband over the phone stating that all we want to do is sue the company! The owner then asked what we wanted from him! We said we want all our money back so we can go to a company that will do quality work so we can move forward and continue moving into our house (we literally were living out of boxes and unable to use our bottom level of our house for 9 months.) He said that will not happen. They gave us a bit of a run around and many calls later they called back and said they were going to replace all the carpet. Not sure why, but we went with it. They sent 3 subcontractors and gave them 9-5 to complete. Our basement is HUGE and we have 2 upstairs carpeted bedrooms. Time was ticking and of course I was checking the perimeter! Each time I would pull (and this is a gentle tug) and the carpet would come up, I would point it out! Rita would call the contractors and see why they were still there. She finally told them if I tugged the carpet one more time to pack up their things and leave! We had to call them back for transitions into bathrooms not being complete and stair carpet coming up. The carpet is still not stretched correctly and still has issues of coming up at the perimeter. I can always tell because it appears to bubble. Carpet moves when vacuuming. We are left at square one and having to save to have ALL the flooring replaced which will take years. Awful experience."
"Greg was great from the start. Cheapest quote I found, he stayed in touch and even though we had one small hiccup in the process, he rectified it within the hour. Installers were here within 2 days and I love the job they did."
"We chose this place because they offered us a really great price on carpet, padding, and installation, but I would not recommend using them under any circumstances: you get what you pay for. The installer showed up several hours late to the job even after we called the main store. When he finally got there he quoted us a half hour install time. About 2 hours later, he’s still not finished and he informs us that he’s run out of staples for his staple gun, so he left for over an hour to buy more. When he finally got back again he again quoted us about twenty more minutes of work before the job was to be finished, but didn’t finish the job for about two more hours. He was essentially at our home the entire day. When he left we discovered that the tacks from the tack strip were coming up through the carpet on every tack strip; they were sharp enough to cut your toe. We called the store and they sent him back out to hammer in the tacks but when he left there were still over 30 tacks which could be felt through the carpet. I would never use this company again, and I recommend choosing another store for your carpet purchase and install."
"Great place. Qoute was the cheapest around. Decent selection and the installers came in worked hard all day and cleaned up afterwards. Highly recommended"
