Reviews of Lorain County Garage Door Repair
"I would give 0 stars if I could We called Lorain County Garage Door Repair on Friday Nov 17th because our garage door would not open. Jaime from Lorain County Garage Door came out to assess the situation and informed us the spring inside a 16-foot pipe was most likely broken and would need repaired. He informed us that the spring was very small and inside this long pipe so the whole pipe would need to be replaced because there was no other way to get to the spring inside. He also noted that the garage door itself was too heavy for the original spring that was installed. Our garage door has 5 beams and windows that cause excess weight. He told us the new spring he was installing was better and would be able to better manage the weight. He informed us it would be $850. At this time it was 3:00pm on a Friday and we were going out to town the next day and needed to get our cars out of the garage. We agree to allow him to repair the door. He stated that his warehouse closes at 4pm and the parts he needed to repair the door were at his warehouse. He would need to rush over to Elyria from North Ridgeville to get the parts. Jaime said we needed to write a check for $850, at which point he would have to go to the bank first to cash then he would go get the parts and come back to repair our door. He also wouldn’t take credit cards. While we were skeptical of this unusual business practice, we wrote the check. Jaime did come back to repair the door. A week later the garage door wasn’t working properly. It would start to open and would stick and continue to stick. It would take 4-5 attempts to get the garage door to open. We had never experienced that issue before his repairs. After a few days of this I called Jaime back. I explained the issues and asked if he could come back and make sure the door wasn’t out of alignment or to check if anything was missed during the repair. I was told that he never gets complaints after he does a job and that the issues were probably a new problem and not related to the work he did. He said he would have to charge me to come back and look at the garage door. I questioned this and gave a little push back. I re-explained that we never had these issues before his repairs and that I shouldn’t be charged for him to come back. At this point he started yelling at me and hung up on me. He called back 5-10 mins later and we continued to have some back and forth. We said we were going to call a second company to look at the door. We called Action Door and had them come out on Friday Dec 1st. When Action Door came out, they informed us that the 1st repair done by Lorain County Garage Door was done incorrectly. They took photos and did a write-up for us detailing what was done wrong. They stated that the Door had a 2x250x32 spring that was rated to pick up a door weight rated at 140lbs. The door we have is 180lbs. They had to replace the new spring with 2 newer springs of 2x234x36 rated to lift a door weight of 180lbs. Action Door stated that Jaime had installed the wrong spring for the door. Action Door also noted that the bearings should have been mounted on the inside of the track, but Jaime mounted them on the outside of the track. Jaime was aware of the weight issues and made comments to us regarding the weight on Nov 17th. He told us he installed a larger spring that was able to manage the weight of the door. He knew the weight was an issue and still gave us the wrong parts. I was even more upset to learn that they mounted the bearings incorrectly as well. To add insult to injury we learned that Jaime overcharged us by $350. Starting on Dec 4th. I have made several calls to discuss the situation and what we can do to remedy the situation. Jaime answers the phone and keeps telling me his office manager will contact me, or he gives me times I can expect calls and they aren’t returning my calls. It has been a few days, and I cannot make progress. I do not recommend this company. They are difficult to work with they have questionable business practices and do poor work that they overcharge for."
"Here is my warning to you all !! Please don't do business with them ....Period! Jaime took my money and did nothing! He is not BBB accredited, it's shameful! My legal will be free from a family member! It's about the principle. People work to hard for their money to be scammed by with bull. Shameful."
"HORRIBLE!! Jamie was very nice coming to our home to do the free estimate right away. He required a deposit of $89 (We are still waiting on that refund he assured us would be returned) He scheduled a time to install our new garage door opener & never showed up or called. After 2 hours of waiting we contacted him. He claimed he was busy and could come out later that day. He never showed up once again. Will not return calls or messages. Would not recommend using this company."
"$700 to install a $99 garage door opener. They claimed they installed a different model with Wi-Fi capabilities, but they didn’t. Promised to come back out and rectify the situation. 4 days later and they have stopped calling me. They do not take credit or debit cards only cash and check. Basically take your money and run operation. Very surprised at the number of good reviews. Are they writing their own? Jamie talks in circles and will not answer a question directly. So wish I would have picked a different company…"
"Beware of pre paying Jamie for any garage door replacement. We needed a new garage door for one of our communities and payed upfront over $1K for the door. This was back in February when we were told it would be 4-6 weeks for the door to get here, we were fine with this. We are NOT fine though with the fact that it has been 24 weeks with no response from Jamie. We have had multiple property managers try to contact Jamie in which he will not return any calls or texts. At this point we are just asking for our money be returned as we have went with another company who delivered the door as asked. Feel free to contact us Jamie if you see this."
