"Went to see a friend over Xmas here. The parking lot is not clear, and sidewalks are not cleared. Apparently, if you slip and hurt yourself, it's ok. I wonder if management would clear it if they got sued."
"I purchased a home and went through the closing process when I still had 2 full months left on my lease. Marvin then took advantage of the fact that he knew we were not actively living in our unit. He began showing it without notifying us at all, when Ohio code requires a landlord notify tenants 24 hours in advance. During one showing, we had left our keys on the counter and had been using the garage to come in and out when we checked on the place, which was completely empty of any furniture or belongings. He took it upon himself to take the keys with him back to his office and said if we wanted them, we'd have to come get them. Next up, maintenance began working on our unit also during our lease. I always take care of rentals as if they were my own home because I am a tidy person to begin with and I also intend to get my deposit back when my renting is done. So repairs were minimal and only consisted of touch-up paint. We had also painted one bathroom gray and intended to paint it back tan so we wouldn't be charged. When we went back within a week of our lease ending, our bathroom had been painted back and all other touch-up work was done. We had no opportunity to do this ourselves. With days left on the lease, there was no final documentation given to us and we we figured the process out on our own with no help from management. My husband and I set an amount in our mind that we knew we deserved back from our security deposit given the quality we left the unit in and were fully prepared to take Karam Properties to small claims court, which if you do a quick Google search, you'll find has been happening quite often these last few years with various tenants of rental properties they "manage." 36 days later, we got our check in the mail and it was only slightly under what we agreed upon but we decided to save ourselves more frustration and just be done with them and take what they offered. Interestingly though, there was only one charge and it was $225 for paint. Yes, the paint I mentioned before which we intended to do OURSELVES but didn't get the opportunity to do since people were working in our unit without our knowing or permission while we still leased it. The icing on the cake for me after ALL of this is that I had made arrangements before moving out for the gas and electric to transfer out of my name after the last day of our lease, naturally. However, I got charged for the month following when I had absolutely no ownership or responsibility for the property. The utility companies said it should've reverted back to the landlord between tenants, which is what most apartment complexes do, and that I'd have to call management. Great, one last fun-filled phone call with always-irritated Marvin. He stated that it was my responsibility to turn utilities off upon moving out, which I stated I very clearly did and his end is where things fell through, and he said they have no reversion plan in place for this reason because Ohio Edison and Dominion are problematic and they "duped" me. He "understood my frustration" and wished me "good luck" as he hung up on me, insinuating it was not his problem at all. So here I am, having not had ANYTHING to do with this unit legally for over a month but paying $45 in utility bills for the property anyway because the landlord won't take accountability for ANYTHING. Again, Google Karam Properties or Crown Properties and you'll find that various people have taken them to court and won in recent years because they like to treat their tenants like trash. It is clear they're used to people like myself getting so frustrated with them that they just take the loss, whether it be a low security deposit return or paying bills you have no ownership of months after you've moved out. This is where they thrive. cheating you out of your money and pocketing it. Do. Not. Live. Here. It'll be constant aggravation for you and your family and everyone deserves better than Marvin and his pathetic excuse for management "skills.""
