Reviews of University Commons Apartments
"Update: February 17th 2024! On my third year of living here and things couldn't be any better. If you're looking for a calm and peaceful life style with a quick commute to the lively and entertaining joy that is Downtown Cleveland, then look no more! The pros significantly outweighing the cons being: 1) Very affordable rental cost. 2) Electric being the only utility. 3) Very understanding management and staff who are quick to take action when notified. 4) Very family like neighbors who are very helpful and keep the peace. 5) Safe environment. 6) Being next to Cleveland state. (Great for students) 7) Avoidance of intolerance in any form. 8) Traffic to the city is fast even on busy days. 9) New recycling system. (very important) The only cons that I can say to take caution of are: 1) The occasional faults in elevator function. (There are stairs Don't be lazy) 2) Very rare but occasional roach problem which can be avoided by not being dirty and communication. (communication is key in all things!!!) 3) Weighted windows.(If you're picky) Some major aspect to be understood is: This is an older building that is constantly being improved With the Help of the current manager who is a blessing to have here. She is consistent and cares about the work being done; Not just doing a job and going home so you don't have to worry in that sense. A lot of the circumstances are to be expected but don't think there's nothing being done on the other side of things. Communication goes a long way so don't wait until the cup is overflowing to turn off the faucet. Communicate as soon as possible. Nothing is perfect but don't let that stray you away from a good experience! All in all, University Commons has been a great experience for me the last three years and I'm sure it will be for you if you were considering moving in! Happy moving!!!"
"This apartment complex was an absolute nightmare to live in. I cannot stress enough how awful our experience was. Do yourself a favor and steer clear of this place. The sheer infestation of roaches, not just in our units but crawling around the lobby, was beyond disgusting. Management's insistence that the lobby was roach-free is laughable, as I've attached a photo proving otherwise. Within a mere two months of moving in, we endured relentless water leaks cascading down our walls, flooding our kitchen and staining everything in sight (see attached pictures). Despite countless complaints, nothing was ever fixed. The disregard for our safety and health is infuriating. Mold thrived in those damp conditions, posing serious health risks, yet management turned a blind eye. The lack of security measures was appalling. The first main entrance door does not have a lock, allowing random people to loiter around, putting everyone's safety at risk. As a woman living alone at times, the constant fear of encountering strangers in the hallways was unsettling, to say the least. And let's not forget about the ancient apartment doors that would leave you stuck in your bedroom for an hour because the knobs will hardly turn, and the dysfunctional kitchen cabinets that made everyday tasks a nightmare as they couldn’t even open. To top it off, we were slapped with unjust charges for damages we didn't cause, like broken blinds that costed us over $100 to pay them for that we never EVER broke upon moving out. Don't be fooled by any attempt from management to reply & try to discredit this review; they refuse to take responsibility for their failures. Save yourself the agony and find somewhere else to live. This place is an absolute disgrace and unworthy of anyone's time or money."
"THEE worst building i have ever lived in to date. downright disgusting. i do not recommend living here unless you are from a third world country and are used to living in a run down hut surrounded by massive bugs. the roach infestation is a lost cause and completely out of control. they are the HUGE roaches, too. comparable to the size of a grown man’s fist. seeing huge roaches in my unit and around the building became apart of my norm on a weekly basis. the units are all extremely dated. no accommodations or amenities. not pet friendly. the entire building itself is filthy. you get an uneasy feeling upon entering and feel like you need to shower almost instantly. it needs to be demolished, honestly. attached are photos of roaches that were in the MAIN LOBBY next to the elevator for well over a week —they want to deny that they have roaches in their response, so i posted an additional photo which includes the map of where the photo was taken. this specific incident was in the MAIN LOBBY next to the elevator i am no longer a resident here and i am IMMENSELY grateful and relieved. easily the worst choice i have ever made was signing a lease here. CONDEMN THIS PLACE"
"I would not recommend this apartment. There is a major mouse and roach problem that the staff is aware of but has done next to nothing to fix. The staff has major turnaround and the new staff never seems to know of previous issues so expect to report issues 4-5 times before they are addressed. The lock to the garage was broken for months. While the staff is pleasant and seems to try, it appears no one is able to stay long enough to get any real chance accomplished (ps they bribed tenants for five star reviews with gift cards)."
"Great location, super close to CSU and downtown. Building has some age on it but it's generally a great place to live, I've had no issues with my apartment. The previous manager didn't seem to care much about the residents but the new manager, Bobbie has been fantastic! I recently brought a couple issues to her and they were addressed ASAP."
