Reviews of 1OAK
"Don't believe the positive reviews. Residents are unhappy. Elevator out for over a week. People stranded. Very old bldg moved into an apartment that had a long standing problem with water damage.Uninhabitable unit. Had to live in apt w/my cats during major construction. wall had to be torn down in bathroom after assured it was fixed. Then laminate flooring replaced 2 weeks later because damaged from water for unknown period of time. No sanitizing, blowers, dehumidifier, treatment of mold. Discount of rent x2 months & key to another unit to use shower is not solution when you pull up with your moving truck & told still not ready. Matt has been patient & tries to make things better for residents even tho taking care of 2 old properties (1oak & Coronet Club) best he can. Harbor View is 3rd property owned across the street. I suggest you avoid this end of town if you want quiet neighborhood feel in Lakewood. 1Oak does have a nice pool. There's underground parking spots. Parking is extra fee everywhere on top of rent. But major bus stop right out front. Have to Pay for laundry card ($30?). No bed bugs thus far, which is a problem for other multifamily properties. I saw a lot of places in Lakewood before renting here. Beware of hidden fees. didn't have to pay for grab bars needed in bathroom, which is unusual. 52 days later, moved me to a different unit on the Rocky River side of the building. The other unit I was in has been rented. Windows were sealed. Unsure if other problems addressed. Yikes! Matt personally took care of moving my stuff from one unit to another. That was above & beyond. Matt & Jose (maint) are so kind. Mary seems to care & is kind. Idky People stay a long time. They like it here, have nowhere else to go, only need a bed, a place to park car & they can afford, or it's just temporary. It's one injury after another for me. Injured my shoulder opening window in bedroom! Too sick to get examined. I'm tired of going to get medical care because of stuff that could be prevented. It's hard to receive Visiting Nurse services & recover under circumstances. I'm not alone in this situation. Lots of people have problem units here & Lakewood in general. Fifty-one percent of City residents are renters (or 51% of properties are rentals). Do They just tolerate it or complain to other residents? I just choose to tell you like it is based on obs and exp. MANAGEMENT (whoever that is) want me GONE. Retaliation. Felt pressure to fix review. Censor it. I got another nastygram, unsigned, insinuating such As Renters, get to Know landlord Tenant laws, especially ur rights!! Fair Housing, too. I just want to settle in. I'm living in bedroom. I Don't / can't use rest of 2/1 apt. Limbo. Not unpacked. It's a temporary move for me. Consistent with age of building are methods of Communication with residents and building security. I think they are afraid to put anything in writing to cover their assets. F2f communication & logging problems & maintenance requests, in public displayed book by coffee in lobby. They come to your unit otherwise. Please Stop knocking on my door & bothering me. Use technology to communicate to residents. Opinion of mgmt (won't tell me his name/property management company or owner info, name) is that I should shut up & get out. I know It could be a whole lot worse. Landlords prevail in Ohio. High demand area. Overpriced. I want to have "peaceful enjoyment" of my unit, but it hasn't come. I've had to do things myself. (e. g. clean up unit after I move in bc dirty AF). FYI no "rent Cafe" or community posting online. portal to pay more than your monthly rent & fees for extra charge. No thanks. I already have to pay atm fees to do my laundry on the 3rd floor. Write a check. If you don't know what that is, ask ur mom. I have had way better rental experiences where at least pretended to care about their property, residents. I've also visited nicer housing that is income based, sect 8, HUD, housing in my lifetime & Lakewood, too. Its not worth the price for what you get. If you have a car, commute and live elsewhere."
"Maintenance guys are always nice and helpful. The pool was clean and fun to use during the summer. Elevators are sketchy and the laundry room and parking are horrific! I told the leasing manager about my balcony being broke 6 months ago and it has yet to be fixed...and I pay extra for it. I'm sure I won't get back pay for it. He didn't respond to my messages about moving but he sure did cash that fat check I wrote. Power and water go out often. It is a very busy area, between kids drinking and screaming to all the construction going on. 5/10 recommend"
"Great and affordable spot to live in Lakewood. I've been here for the past 4 years and its amazing. The pool and gym is always very clean and the lobby is always nice and tidy. The office is very helpful with technical things as well! Maintenance is amazing! Super friendly and personable. Always extremely quick to handle repairs and help out when needed! The neighbors are also very nice too! Absolutely love it!"
"My boyfriend recently started a fellowship at the Cleveland Clinic and we decided to move into 1 OAK. The apartment manager, Brook, helped us find an amazing unit. We have a fabulous view. The apartment has lots of natural light and closet space! The whole complex is super clean, renovated and up to date! There is a great gym with a huge selection of fitness equipment. I can't wait till summer to tan by the pool. The best part is the location. I can walk to Whole Foods and do all my grocery shopping! Lakewood is filled with cute fun bars! Living at 1 OAK has made me love Cleveland. I HIGHLY recommend this building. Management also let me know they are installing a Starbucks machine in the lobby!!!"
"Been here for 2 years and I have no complaints. Management is great and responds fast to any issues. We have the coolest maintenance people I have seen. The building is well maintained and clean. It is always being improved. I love the new gym!"
