"I’m very grateful to our maintenance team. They always do a wonderful job. With that said, it would be proper for The Villager to resolve the issue with my water heater pilot light going out so frequently. It’s quite the inconvenience! Three times since January 22!"
"The maintenance staff is doing their best to repair apartments that had water damage during this last cold snap. I don't know the budget situation or if the staff would welcome more help, and maybe there is enough help on a regular basis, but it seems that another employee would be helpful. The staff is always respectful and professional."
"The apartments are nice, no issues with neighbors or anything. Our ceiling has had water damage which we have reported and they just plastered over it multiple times. Additionally there is 2 pools, one that has been closed for many years but we were told we had a “pool view” room when we picked out unit but the pool is closed and gross. Not only until we met our neighbors were we told the pool hasn’t been opened in years. The apartments themselves are nice; but they don’t take maintenance requests seriously and have avoided questions about the pool."
"For those only skimming the reviews, please consider all other options thoroughly before moving in to The Villager. As a previous Tennant in 2017/2018, I made the mistake of assuming that at least the most basic of improvements and maintenance had been made to compensate for the increase in rent (around $1200 in 2018). As far as I can tell, these apartments have only become MORE dilapidated and neglected over the course of 5 or so years. Calling these apartments "Luxury" is downright laughable and borderline disrespectful. I would only assume it all stems from the holding company, Birge & Held, cutting corners and up-charging tennants wherever possible. Here's a quick summary of what you can (and should) expect: 1.) Do not sign your lease without first seeing the exact unit you're moving into. The unit we requested wasn't available for a walkthrough, so they decided to show us a townhome (that had already been signed, and was not available), and ensured us that our unit would have the same level of quality and upkeep as what was shown. It did not. 2.) Upon moving in, it was VERY clear that the only "upkeep" performed was a poor paint job. Paint was peeling in several places, outlets were coved, and the breaker box switch descriptions, all painted over. There was, and still is 5 months later, so many health concerns and maintenance issues throughout. The dishwasher was disgusting, mold covering the front door, utility closet and fireplace possibly never cleaned, mold / moisture damage underneath the "luxury" press board countertops, damaged tile in master bathroom covered in plastic siding that surely has even more mold behind it because it's not properly caulked, gaps in bathroom flooring, no flashing or seals between floor and toilets / bathtubs, several unsealed holes in the wall creating potential pest problems, trash littering the back yard, rotting plywood above the back deck, a sliding patio door with broken rails / screen / lock / and security bar, the door on the backyard fence doesn't latch, and plenty else (see photos). 3.) You are forced into only having Xiber as an Internet provider, which the apartments profit HEAVILY from. According to rent charges, I'm assuming they make about $40 a month per Tennant in the form of "Xiber Revenue" listed as a charge on your rent. This gets you 200Mbps in the form of the most unreliable internet you'll likely ever have. If you want faster speeds, prepare to pay an *extra* $60 a month to Xiber for 500Mbps, where you'll likely still only receive 250Mbps with their newest equipment IF you complain enough to come have it upgraded. Spectrum is able to provide 1Gbps at the same price with a FIBER OPTIC connection, but can't install due to Xiber's equipment on site which brute forces a signal from glorified cellular hotspots into the units through repurposed DSL lines from the early 2000s. Fun fact, the office confirmed that they use Spectrum business class Internet, proving they're okay with tennants suffering if that puts more money in their pocket. They will also try to say it's a better service and all works the same, but as someone who works in the tech industry, this is such a bold faced lie. To make matters worse, they allow Xiber to let you sign up and pay for 1Gbps, however IF YOU CALL, they will confirm that those speeds are unachievable, honestly so is the 500Mbps option. Please do not move here if you work from home, especially if you work over a VOIP line, calls will clients WILL get disconnected. 4.) A management staff that shifts blame with no remorse or empathy. Can't get service tickets resolved? "Sorry, were short staffed and can't do anything about it" Been waiting 6 months for the patio door to get fixed so you can use and enjoy features like letting the breeze in? "Sorry, Dayton Xenia glass is still backed up" (even though I called and they said the back order was closer to 4 months) All of the things they're supposed to fix and replace for new tenants will be left alone, you'll move in, and nothing will get done while you live here."
"I love my apartment. It’s huge and feels like an actual house, aside from not having a washer and dryer. This is my main con, although it does have the hookup if I were able to buy them. I suggest to management if you don’t wanna put money into fixing the pool on the north china side, putting that money towards a better laundry room over here would be smart and very helpful to all of us. Other than that, maintenance is quick and does a good job. Thanks!"
