Reviews of Greater Metropolitan Title
"They were great for the closing when we sold our home in May 2021. Unfortunately, they never sent us a tax statement for that sale. . When I called to get it this summer, in order to file my taxes (don't judge me, I filed an extension), they said that they'd send it, but failed to. They are also hard to get on the phone. Several weeks later, I called and left messages about six times before I finally got someone on the phone. When I did reach an agent, they did sent the files I needed very quickly by email."
"Charmie (pronounced Sharmie) is the best receptionist ive had the pleasure of helping me in business. Ive closed more houses with Greater Metropolitan title than any other title company in Toledo and Suburban area. Call her today to get title info and to speak with a professional."
"This title agency made 4 different accounting errors associated with the sale of my prior residence. 1) After the forms were signed and the keys were turned over, I was informed the wire transfer would not clear and I would have to wait a day or two to receive my funds. 2) I was contacted several days later indicating they had made an accounting error and that I would have to write a check and drop it off at the office to cover the difference. 3) They apparently made a separate accounting error at the cost of the buyer and issued a refund 11 months later. 4) The aforementioned refund check showed up at the sellers residence with the buyers name on it. The buyer's name never should have been associated with the sellers residence. If you want a seamless, hassle-free experience, I would not recommend this title agency. I have used a local competitor just down the road twice before with no issues."
"Throughout the entire process, my escrow coordinator was extremely difficult to get a hold of. Entire business days would go by before getting a response. My father and I were trying to purchase a home together. In the middle of the process, he wasn't able to be at the closing. Our mortgage broker suggested I look into getting power of attorney for my father. When I called Chicago Title, my coordinator was adamant that I could not act as power of attorney for my father; she claimed no mortgage company would ever allow it. I was confused, as my mortgage company was the one who suggested it. I asked about this, and asked if they were willing to let me be power of attorney would Chicago Title have a problem with it. She replied that I would need written permission from the mortgage company. Assuming she knew what she was talking about, I called my mortgage broker. My mortgage broker was stunned. She said this type of thing happens all the time, that of course I could act as power of attorney, and offered to call and speak to the coordinator directly. After their conversation, my mortgage broker called me back. The coordinator completely changed her story, and implied I was lying. I had written down notes during the phone call, and don't doubt my account of events. Chicago was now willing to allow me to act as my father's power of attorney, for a fee. I researched online and found a few inexpensive ways to do power of attorney with a family lawyer friend and local notary; Chicago Title wouldn't allow it. I had to pay their lawyer their fee to prepare the document. So now I'm waiting to hear the final amount I need to have electronically wired for all closing items. According to emails I received from Chicago they need to have all closing funds at least a day before closing. Because of delays on Chicago Title's side, I didn't get the final numbers for closing until after 4:55 the day before. I immediately called my coordinator's direct line, then the front office. No answer. I then emailed her to see what I needed to do. Closing was the next afternoon, my bank was now closed, it would be impossible for me to meet their deadline of funds a day before closing. My bank was able to expedite the wire transfer. I called and emailed my coordinator to see if the funds had arrived, but I was unable to get ahold of her. It wasn't until I arrived at closing that I knew if the funds had arrived. Now closing. We get to the part where they review the funds. It's $.08 short. Chicago insisted I needed to write a personal check for the $.08. I can't imagine how poorly managed a company has to be to pay someone's salary or hourly wage to log and cash a check for $.08, but what do I know? We finished closing. I caught up with our realtor a few weeks later and learned Chicago Title didn't send her commission check like they should have. That eventually got sorted out. THEN today, 22 days after closing, I get a letter from City of Toledo Public Utilities. They're unable to process my request to put utilities in my name because the house isn't in my name. Did some research, Chicago Title never processed the paperwork. The house is still in the name of the seller. Now I've got a whole mess to deal with. I need to contact the seller to arrange for me to reimburse him for almost a month of sewage, garbage and water. I need to now fill out an application for service, include a bunch of information and post it back to City of Toledo Public Utilities within 14 days (12 now, the letter took 2 days to get to me) or else my water and sewage services will be terminated (and I'll have to pay a hefty fine to have them reinstated). I'm fuming. I really hope that $.08 check I paid them was worth it. I'm never using this title company ever again. My realtor is never using this title company ever again. And, if you have the option, I strongly suggest you consider using another title company as well."
"I've worked with Chicago Title for over 10 years as a Realtor and they have always done a great job! I trust them with My Clients and even closed on my own home purchase with them. Their staff is friendly and knowledgeable. I'll continue to send business their way!"
