Reviews of The Davidson
"Fine dining at its best downtown by Fountain Square. Beautiful inside. Excellent food and service. I ordered two starters with a glass of wine: Clams Casino and Moroccan Roasted Eggplant. Left full and happy. Opened February 2024."
"High hopes and a solid presentation, but left wanting something truly "different" than what it is. Great atmosphere, the food is tasty, it's good enough, but if you're an avid thunderdome client, it's nothing new. The mushroom soup was devine, the crudos were as you'd expect, maybe a little too citrusy. The pasta was straight out of pepp and Delores which is not a bad thing. But there was no soul to the primary dishes. It felt phoned in, safe, which honestly is fine, but that's how I'd describe the experience. Just fine. Did not really get a feeling of anything new here, just a classed up version of the fast casual best dishes from the other restaurants. Certainly a good venue on the square to attract out of towners, but fans of the staples like pepp, kruegers, Bakersfield and eagle may be left wanting more. Played it a little too safe, but it's still week one and this restaurant group will inevitably keep it going and keep iterating. I'll return in a few months, maybe sooner for cocktails because the bar was fantastic."
"Newest addition to Cincinnati. It's been open for 5 days when we decided to give it a try. My first time trying fondue and I was not disappointed. The Bellini Spritz was very good but the highlight was the Vodka Rigatoni. I could eat any entire meal with just that dish. The scallops were also quite delicious and the flavors balanced were spot on. I recommend not customizing any orders and just try the dish as it comes. Also, if you are a wine fan ask them what pairs well with your dish. It just really takes a very passionate person to pair these flavors so well. Bravo!"
"We tried Davidson for the first time and I’ll start by saying we loved the vibe of restaurants as soon as we walked in. I will say the music was a little too loud to the point where I had trouble hearing the hostess, server and my husband. We were seated by the bar so not sure if the music was just louder in this area of the restaurant. To start I ordered the Margherita- it was good and had a bold flavor profile. We ordered the Carpaccio and Moroccan roasted eggplant which is prepared tableside. Both were amazing, the eggplant took me by surprise and I kept going back for more. As a mid course we order the roasted tomato cannelloni which was creamy and delicious. We were between this and the vodka rigatoni and it did not disappoint. For our entrees, we ordered the Scallops and Steak. We added a side of mash potatoes. The scallops were tender and the butternut puree complimented the scallops perfectly. The steak was cooked to perfection, juicy and you could cut it with a butter knife. The cognac au poivre was delicious. We could have skipped the mash potatoes- we weren’t a fan of the gravy use. It was ordered as a side dish but the gravy clashed with the flavors of the entrees. The fries that came with the steak frites were also undercooked. We ended the night with double expressos. All the service staff were incredibly nice and professional. There were periods throughout the evening where it was apparent that this was a new restaurant still working out the kinks. For example, the cannelloni was dropped but there was no silverware on the table. So we had to wait for our server to bring additional silverware and ultimately a manager walked by and noticed we had none. All in all, the food was delicious, and the atmosphere was great. We will be back!"
"My husband and I were fortunate to be there 2 hours after they opened for the first time. We sat at the bar and thoroughly enjoyed the drinks and Clams Casino. The owners made us feel known and cared for. Joe was wonderful to talk to. He really cares about people and the community. Our bartender, Joe, was so personable and fun. The atmosphere was charming. We will definitely be coming back!"
