About the Virginia B. Fairbanks Art & Nature Park
Located in the heart of Indianapolis, Indiana, the Virginia B. Fairbanks Art & Nature Park is a 100-acre rural oasis that offers a unique blend of art and nature. This living sculpture park, open from dawn to dusk every day and free to the public, features a 35-acre lake, woodlands, wetlands, and the largest native pollinator meadow in Indianapolis.
Established through the generous contributions of several donors, including the Richard M. Fairbanks Foundation, the park is a beloved resource for all visitors. The park regularly presents vibrant new artworks, with the newly endowed Hawryluk Sculpture Green serving as a focal point for immersive art experiences.
Visitors can explore the Home Again exhibition, the first in a series of outdoor public art installations in the park. This exhibition features works by renowned artists such as Heather Hart, Anila Quayyum Agha, Mark Dion, and Dana Sherwood. Additionally, a $3 million gift from Kent Hawryluk will support ongoing commissions of large-scale contemporary sculptures in the park.
Accessible parking is available at the park, with ADA-compliant facilities and stroller-friendly pathways throughout. Visitors can also access the park via the Central Canal Towpath, with bike racks and a Pacers Bikeshare Station available for those traveling by bike. Restrooms are located at the Ruth Lilly Visitors Pavilion, although the pavilion is closed during the winter months.
Whether you're looking to immerse yourself in nature, explore contemporary art installations, or simply enjoy a peaceful retreat from the city, the Virginia B. Fairbanks Art & Nature Park offers a one-of-a-kind experience for all.

Reviews of Virginia B. Fairbanks Art & Nature Park
"After going to the Halloween lights I was severely disappointed in Winter lights. Don't get me wrong. It was nice but not worth the $90 (on a discounted day) I spent to go. In my opinion it was not worth $90 or the almost $150 I would have spent had I gone on a normal day."
"This place has become my home away from home. I love running and walking the trails. I can bring my daughter to play and learn about nature. Staff is friendly, and takes good care of the place. Other patrons are friendly and approachable."
"not local. visited for funky bones. walked the main trail around the lake. nice, clean, and mostly even ground. plenty of places to sit and gather! had a good time walking with my partner. maybe spent an hour in total there. (my partner took the funky bones photos so none to attach at this time, but please enjoy the cool bug we saw there)"
"Excellent park, Indianapolis does itself proud with the overall quality of this park, a great place to take a walk, and check out the fall colors. You could very easily spend the day here, if you really enjoy nature."
"The four of us (wife, son, beagle, and I) first came here on a sunny Saturday afternoon and were utterly charmed by this lush gem of a nature preserve within Indianapolis. So much so that we returned there Sunday morning for a longer visit prior to returning home. On both days, we saw the beauty of it expressed through a harmonious integration of natural features, thoughtful design, and inviting scenery. The trails are well kept and provide a light to moderate exercise for walkers and joggers. Animals are welcome too. Parking capacity can max out on a Saturday so consider visiting on other days. There are porta potties not too far from the entrance. Our best sightings were of a bald eagle soaring high over the pond, a snake that darted quickly into the grass, and a red-tailed hawk on the hunt."
