Reviews of R. Shea Brewing - Canal Place Downtown
"Service was lacking most of the time, trivia night was so loud and unbearable for years but was never addressed, you didn’t have merchandise I was interested in purchasing for nearly half a year, and the food was mediocre at best. I’m not saying this is why you’re out of business, but it’s a microcosm in the grand scheme of your failure. I had more than a few of your beers that were often really good, but what else did you offer? A loud, hot environment in the summer, food that was nothing special, and unremarkable customer service. I think you would have been a success story if you had stuck to your location in the valley and really perfected your craft and fine-tuned your business. I never like to see small businesses shutdown, and I don’t like it with R. Shea, but this is squarely on ownership. I don’t like writing this review, but it seems like no one in your circle has had the willingness to call you on it. As you’re going out of business, you ask the community to fund you. It wasn’t for $10,000 or even $100,000 but for more than $2 million, yet you the arrogance to claim to have “a lot to offer as a head-of operations type of individual” which is absolutely laughable after your complete bungling of this. You mismanaged a small-scale brewing operation into the ground, and you have the audacity to ask your patrons and community to donate millions to bail you out for your poor sense of business and make such a bold claim about your business operations prowess. Good grief. You never addressed the tiny issues that people complained about in reviews, and you claim to be a head-of-operations type. Your beer was solid, but your business acumen lacked. I’m sorry it didn’t work out. My suggestion is to stick to chemistry, where you clearly excel and crafted some really fine beers, and turn the business operations over to seasoned, proven players in the industry. I wish you and all of your staff well."
"R. Shea Brewing in Canal Place Downtown was a pretty cool experience! The atmosphere is like something I never saw before... a restaurant/brewery inside of a old warehouse /building. Was very cool and love the idea! At the time we went they had a Christmas Party on the lower half going on which looked awesome. The bar here is a pretty large with TV's. The food was pretty good! Had the Pretzels with Cheese to start, we both like it. I LOVED the Chick and Waffles they made, they were so delicious! We would have to come back out one day!"
"12/16/2023: I've been here a few times now and enjoy the atmosphere. Definitely need to check it out to hang out and enjoy a relaxing good time. One drawback on this last visit was that it was pretty busy and service was really, really slow. Pizza was delicious!!! ????: We love coming here and trying all that they have! It's definitely a must try if you haven't yet"
"Not every brewing company can claim to be quartered in a historic landmark, let alone in a refurbished factory building. Forget the food and drinks, this place has atmosphere for DAYS. Bringing the drinks back into the picture, I was not impressed with the selection of drafts but I was able to find brews that fit my palette. The food all together was delicious as expected and we only hit the tip of the iceberg in terms of the food menu. We enjoyed our time at R. Shea and would love to try more!"
"This brewery is right downtown in the Canal Place. I'm not sure why it took us so long to go here but I'm glad we decided to stop in. The setting is a warehouse and a little to big but would be great on a busy not or for an event. Of course, R. Shea Brewing has a nice selection of beers. The food was a nice surprise. We ordered the Buffalo Chicken Pizza and it was very good. The fried chicken was a nice touch and cheese was on point. The crust was one of the best I've had in Akron...house made...not to thick or thin and was cooked through. The OG Brewhoyse burger was also very good..beer cheese sauce was excellent...however the burger is always cooked well done and it was a little tough but flavorful. Overall a great experience and we are excited to go back and try some more brews and great food!"
