Reviews of College Hill Community Church
"I fully support efforts to promote racial equality and justice, but the approach of this church isn’t quite right. Several years ago, Premier Health closed & demolished Good Samaritan Hospital, which was located very close to this church. Maybe the church had several members who are disgruntled about the hospital closing, because ever since, the church has had a nasty and divisive sign that says “white people get a hospital, blacks get an urgent care” (the hospital was replaced with a beautiful new urgent care, which is apparently not good enough for this congregation). First of all, I’m white and I live in this neighborhood, so losing the hospital impacted me too. However, the decision to close the hospital had absolutely nothing to do with race. This church plays the race card strong. MVH is a huge hospital that is only a few minutes further away. Name a city as small as Dayton with as many hospitals as we have. Good Samaritan Hospital was an asset but it was a financial decision to close it. It was losing money and it was unnecessary for Premier to have two big hospitals within two miles of each other, duplicating services. This church needs to get over the hospital closing and stop making divisive and false statements that it was about race. It irks me every time I drive past the church because the church is lying to the community. Perhaps the pastor should visit the new Premier Health urgent care and get a blood pressure check or work out at the brand new YMCA and relax. Perhaps the pastor should ask why they want a hospital to treat illness rather than a YMCA that prevents illness? I often hear that “minutes matter” in an emergency. I worked in an ER for many years. A few minutes makes no difference unless the rare situation where someone is shot and bleeding out, which could happen in this neighborhood, but perhaps the congregation should focus on violence prevention and community healing rather than racial issues. The second complaint I have is the ugly BLM crosses on their grass. Again, I support the Black community, but can you please do something more aesthetically pleasing? The crosses are busted, leaning, peeling paint, and just flat out eyesores. Perhaps invest in a nice statue with an eternal flame burning or something like that. A Quick Look into 99% of incidents where police shoot a person involves the suspect NOT obeying lawful orders. When an officer gives a command, simply listen and follow the order respectfully. Resisting arrest, fleeing, arguing, using foul and abusive language towards officers is simply raising the risk of violence exponentially. Such offenders are sadly asking to be shot. Also most people killed by cops have rap sheets longer than my CVS receipt and are almost always positive for multiple illegal substances on the autopsy report. They aren’t model citizens and aren’t worthy of being celebrated. Police aren’t racist, they are just trying to do their jobs with uncooperative fools that are celebrated at this church as hero’s and role models. It’s frankly disgusting how this church is so racist."
"Pastor Worthen walks with God in every aspect of her life. The only African American ordained female Pastor in the Miami Valley. We are blessed to have a lady of substance that always shares the spirit and words of Jesus with a smile as she so eloquently teaches from the Bible, to her the congregation, preparation and prayer for all possibilities that may come into our lives."
"Nothing about the exterior of this place would suggest it's a church of Christ. Not by it's name, not by it's marquee, neither the litter they decorate the public easement surrounding their building with. There is no mention of Christ nor the Gospel. What you will know, upon first glance, is this is a decisive church of racism and politics. They are activists of the left in guise of a church. Troubled souls beware .. Seek the Gospel first. Find a church who wears its beliefs on its sleeve -- proudly and loudly declaring Christ and His message of redemption above all else."
"College Hill Community Church is one of the most beautiful churches in the area in which we live. It's a landmark in our city. While in college I attended a service there . I was greeted with the feeling that I was family. The people who are in the congregation are the nicest, most caring people that I have met. Thank God for this place."
"My dad served as pastor there from 1966 to 1968. We loved that church and the diverse community! Some of my fondest memories are of all the different folks we met there! We had to leave when my dad became ill, but the church took up a collection to help us even then. Even though it was only two years, i remember the church fondly, and am so thrilled (as I'm certain my dad would be looking down) to see a vibrant, alive, church there were the gospel is preached! Bless you all!"
