Reviews of Gentle Shepherd Counseling Center
"Our family has used Gentle Shepherd for years for help. They are responsive, kind, sensitive and available when we need them. We love Joanna and Emily in particular. If you need help, they will do their best to point you to Jesus and work with you for healing."
"there’s another girl that commented on this in the reviews and I highly recommend that you take the time to read. be very careful of this place I spent a couple of weeks doing treatment here. they told me that my insurance covered it and then eventually called me and told me that I owe $500. I already have PTSD and was desperately trying to get some help and now in debt because of this horrible horrible place not only do I owe $500 but they like to put interests on your due amount when you do not pay it. Who ever owes this place and works at place that tricks people to thinking that it’s covered you deserve the worst karma. DO NOT RECOMMEND THIS PLACE."
"Everyone person I've worked with at Gentle Shepherd have been wonderful. Well, ok, there was one frontdesk person I wasn't too crazy about, but that person doesn't work there now. My counselor is especially AWESOME. She genuinely cares about people. That's extremely important to me."
"Emily is my daughter's counselor and we couldn't be more happy with the progress that our daughter has made. She absolutely loves Emily and feels she has been a big help to her. Anytime I call in to schedule, the receptionists are always very kind and helpful. The only thing I would change is being able to schedule further out than the 2 months allowed. This is an amazing Christian counseling group and I would recommend it to anyone who needs a wonderful counselor."
"I am incredibly disappointed with the way they treat patients here. I had two sessions with a counselor I truly connected with and then.... After two sessions, I was told via email that I would not qualify for the sliding scale. Okay. So I pivoted and tried my insurance, although I was fairly certain they did not cover counseling sessions. A few days before my third appointment, I email the Office Manager that I had been corresponding with and asked if she found out if my insurance was going to cover anything. I needed to know BEFORE my appointment, because I was not going to be able to afford it otherwise, and needed to cancel. After two more emails, one day out from the appointment, the Office Manager simply replied, "I will cancel your appointment for tomorrow. Please call the office to pay the balance on the account." (That is copied and pasted from my last correspondance with her.) Honestly, I wanted to cry. It broke my heart, not that we couldn't afford $500 in counseling a month, but the way that I was treated.. Not, "I'm so sorry but we checked with your insurance and they don't cover it. We understand if you're unable to continue sessions. We'll have your counselor follow up with a brief phone call to terminate your counseling sessions well." ANYTHING. YA'LL, ANYTHING would have been better than the way the "Office Manager" responded to me. I'm also not sure what would actually qualify you for a sliding scale here, either. I work at a non-profit and so does my husband, plus I work hourly, not salaried. I cannot fathom, after hearing our situation, why they wouldn't just say, "hey we get times are tough, we appreciate you work for the community, you don't meet our standards for the sliding scale, but we'll offer you $25 off each session." IS $100/SESSION NOT BETTER THAN LOSING A PATIENT ALTOGETHER? I can't fathom how customer retention happens here considering the attitude and actions of the office manager. I am also incredibly disappointed that after the (brief, I'll have you, but still) rapport that my counselor made she didn't bother to call or email and check in to see why I didn't return for sessions. I waited several weeks to see if she would, but when the final bill came in the mail, I figured the counseling relationship was done and she didn't care about terminating the counseling relationship well. This is exceptionally dis-heartening after the counselor I was seeing knows I have a background in counseling patients in the health care sector. The non-profit I work for has put me in a unique position where folks OFTEN ask for recommendations for counseling, and since I have lived in Ohio a little over a year, I have sent several folks here based on the location and word of mouth. I will never send another person in crisis, as I was, to GSCC. Unless they wanted to feel robbed of finances and their dignity. I pray they get some training in how to deal with folks. Obviously, when someone is seeking counseling, they are putting their vulnerability, pride, and heart on the line to open up to a stranger. To have that shattered due to a poorly mannered Office Manager and no proper follow up with patients is definitely poor business."
