"Would not recommend to anybody who has the option. If not for the price point alone, Honors Academic Village is only a disappointment through and through. They have internet that goes out for days on end with no response or initiative to fix it. They also have paper thin walls and doors that merely suggest that you have privacy and have no sound deadening at all. Also, good luck finding anyone helpful to talk to, especially if they move someone into your shared room without your consent. If you have any issues at all, better rough it out and move somewhere better next semester."
"Probably the nicest dorm on campus, which is shown by the price. I have lived here for four years. My first two years were pretty nice, but they switched to an internet provider who has been nothing but trouble. Monthly internet outages that last for multiple days are not out of the ordinary. I wish I could give a higher rating, as all of the people who work here are amazing and super nice. However, when you are living somewhere as a student in today's age, access to internet is one of the primary concerns. All assignments and many quizzes and exams are given online meaning that constant wifi outages are a critical issue. Would recommend checking out the other places on campus that are getting renovations until the wifi issue is fixed. (If you are curious about the wifi provider, research Pavlov Media. HAV switched to them in the fall of 2021. Pavlov had low ratings then, and has only dropped since. They currently stand at 1.9 stars on Google.)"
"No wifi. Has been out for days on end. Has went out multiple times previously, even during exam week. It goes out building wide, not just for certain individuals at certain times. So far it’s been over 2 days of no internet connection. Not to mention you’re paying thousands of dollars for no internet connection. This has been consistent for over a year, they don’t fix anything, just mend it for a week before it fails again, because they switched to a cheaper internet provider. Don’t live here if your classes require you to do homework. Don’t live here if you want a space to do homework and pass your classes. Great option for flunking out in the most expensive way possible."
"Nice dorms. Great option for engineering students. Parking sucks."
"Definitely the best dorms on campus even for the price. You can choose between a single, a double, and a quad. I had the quad my Freshman year and it was amazing. We had a huge lounge area with a TV stand with cable and Ethernet ports right behind it (no TV obviously) and a sectional couch that was very comfortable. There's a kitchen area with a kitchen sink plus garbage disposal, plenty of cupboards, an included induction heating plate (so bring induction friendly cookware) and a full size fridge. Each of us had our own bedroom with a door and a lock. Two bedrooms are slightly smaller than the other two but they're all about the same size. There was AC that you could set and each room had a bed (bring a mattress topper. The mattresses aren't all that good), a desk with cable and Ethernet ports nearby, a closet with mirror doors, and a little alcove for a shelf or something. Not bad considering the fact that you don't have to share the bedroom with anyone. Each two people share one bathroom so in total there are 2 toilets, two showers (bring your own shower curtains), and 4 sinks so each person gets their own sink, mirror, medicine cabinet, and cupboard. I've only seen the double rooms so I can't say much besides the fact that the bedroom is shared and there is no lounge area or kitchen but they do provide a mini fridge. I'll be staying in a single this upcoming year and I know that it's similar to the double except that you don't have to share the room with anyone and it's slightly smaller than a double. The bathroom sink is in your room and you just have to share a bathroom with your roommate next door. Every room has their own mailbox and they will hold any packages you get and send you a text notification when they arrive. Move in is relatively painless and easy. I haven't had much of an opportunity to participate in any of the LLC's and things like that. They also have amazing public lounge areas and conference/meeting rooms, a weight room, and computer labs. The only complaint I have is that there is no cafe/dining area in the dorm and the closest dining hall closes early on Friday and doesn't open back up until Monday so you have to travel all the way across campus to Ottawa East to eat on the weekends and (it seems to me anyways) that using the washers and dryers is a little pricey. Other than that, if you had the opportunity to stay here over staying somewhere else on campus, I don't know why you wouldn't."
