"I sought treatment from Dr. Norton for PTSD due to years of physical, sexual and emotional trauma as well as long term bulimia. When I started therapy, the world looked black and hopeless. I felt trapped in a bottomless hole where there was no way out. I was a husband and a father and needed to provide for my family. Dr. Norton created a compassionate safe place to share with no judgement and the pit I was in developed the bottom. It became that stable secure base from which to climb out. I was a special case and her efforts to seek input on treatment went beyond the sessions such that she could develop strategies to help me deal with the integration of complex issues I faced. She listened, she understood. I went from isolated, holding on & surviving another day to proactively moving forward, reaching out to others, becoming active in the community & my children’s activities to becoming a leader in my profession. As time has gone on, if I feel like I am slipping, she has always been there for me to help me overcome the feelings that have been triggered. I have recovered from my eating disorder and PTSD and approach life in a healthy way. Her help, caring, compassionate & skillful treatment moved me from looking back to living in the moment and from barely surviving to thriving."
"I was diagnosed with rheumatoid arthritis three years ago. Could hardly walk. Rheumatoid Dr's medications did not help. After consulting with Dr. Norton and her remedy recommendations, I was able to walk without pain within two weeks. I am totally back to normal with movement and no pain. Take no medications, only Dr. Norton's recommendations. Also, my daughter had an eating disorder and hospitalized for a month. After consulting with Dr Norton, she has overcome the disorder. She is back to normal and healthy. Thanks very much to Dr. Norton."
"TW: i was one of her patients for about a month. (nov) i’m 17 and i had just got out of the hospital from being hospitalized for a month. i felt the need to trust dr norton based off of her high reputation and authority. however, i quickly learned that her approach was far more harmful than helpful. one session she read through the nutrition label/ingredients off of the boost drink. (supplement drink many ed patients drink to get adequate nutrition) . she went on to explain how boost is awful for you, which of course made me feel terrible about ever drinking it. she would talk about calories. and she would recommend low calorie foods and drinks as a replacement for so called “bad food”. she would often say that carbs and sugars caused weight gain which led me to develop a fear of desserts, candy, and even fruits. one session she told me that she would “never eat a caramel apple because it has WAY too much sugar” in it. one session she went on a tangent about how bread is america’s most addicting food. she told me that if you were to chew bread for a long period of time, you would begin to taste the sugar the bread contained. she began telling me a story about how she went on a vacation to italy (i believe) and told me how she ate pizza and common italian foods everyday and lost 5 pounds in a week. she emphasized that america’s pizza dough contains bad ingredients that lead to addiction. she told me that if i want pizza, i should be eating it not a lot-but maybe once a week or two. she recommended a specific flour brand from whole foods that was good for you? to an anorexic patient she repeatedly criticized different foods and ingredients. there was a time where i told her i ate edamame for a snack. after i told her that, she began going on a tangent about how soy is actually not good for you. she also would tell me that if i see any foods that contain sunflower oil, to completely avoid it. she recommended that my family throws out all “junk food” including ice cream, candy, nonorganic foods. one day she was talking about if you are craving a food, then to just put it off and then at the end of the day you won’t crave that food anymore. because she so oftenly told me about how bad carbs/sugar is for you, i got scared to eat a single pb cup (candy$. i told her during a session that i avoided eating ONE SINGULAR PB CUP the other day, i expected her to tell me that i am allowed to eat a pb cup and that my body deserves the food i put in it. however, she went on to PRAISE me for NOT eating the pb cup. her exact words were “good for you!!!” . then comes the exercise. i came straight from hospitalization to home, then started talking to dr norton through video or phone calls. during my hospitalization, i needed an ng tube and overall i was unwell. right when i got home from my admission, she emphasized that exercise is essential to keep yourself healthy. that may be true, but to a patient with anorexia -we all know that exercise is not something you can straight off the bat be allowed to do when you are sick. especially if that can harm your physical wellbeing -not just mental. -she emphasized a workout plan- i believe it was 4 differentexercises , each one for 5 minutes- you would do the exercise till you can’t do any more reps, then you would rest for whatever time, then you would go back to those reps. it was all going fine, i would do it- but then she began giving me numbers. she would tell me how much weight she lifts, how long she can last doing a certain exercise, she even would tell me how many push-ups she could do in 5 minutes. this is not okay whatsoever for i felt like i had to compete with her which is a major eating disorder behavior. specific numbers are very triggering to eating disorder patients. her approach is very harmful for one with an ed, even if she comes off as looking in your best interest. coming from a teen who has really struggled with a severe eating disorder , plz take my advice- parents out there, do not bring your child to dr norton. food is not the enemy. her approach says otherwise."
"I met Dr. Norton in 2015 after my daughter had been in the “traditional” treatment for anorexia for two years. She had just been released from a four month stay at an inpatient treatment center in Cincinnati. When she was released from the inpatient treatment center the only thing she would consume was Boost, and she only drank that because if she did not drink it herself, it would be poured down an NG tube which they had put through her nose to her stomach. Needless to say, I was terrified. After two years of traditional treatment, she was worse than when we started. She had gained weight by being forced to, but her mind was deeply entrenched in her anorexia. My daughter and I began therapy with Dr. Norton 5 days a week. The very first session she came up with a meal plan with my daughter, and she had her eating real food the very first day after being in a facility where she didn’t eat real food for four months. For the next few years, my daughter and I fought a difficult battle, but with Dr. Norton’s guidance, kindness, patience, and knowledge, my daughter was able to overcome her eating disorder. Dr. Norton was and is unlike any other doctor I have known. She is available to her patients 24/7. If you need her, you can text her day or night. She is not just concerned with treating your eating disorder but is truly concerned about your total wellbeing. She is very knowledgeable in all aspects of your health, physical as well as mental. I would highly recommend Dr. Norton to anyone who is in need of therapy but in particular to those who suffer from eating disorders. It is my pleasure to know her. I consider her a true friend and cannot thank her enough for what she did for my daughter."
