"My sister and I stayed here last night and we enjoyed it very much. The owner was so very nice and she made us feel at home. She is so knowledgeable about history and current events. If you want to spend some time in cozy and comfortable home, then you need to call her and make reservations. We will definitely stay there again."
"Gorgeous house and marvelous hostess. Would go back, 10/10. The owner, Martha, does not call this place "Aunt Martha's" as it is called on Google maps. But going there, I felt as if she was truly my aunt. She makes your feel like family or old friends. We sat up past midnight talking and laughing with Martha, listening to her wisdom and fascinating stories. We played games and sang songs together, shared a bar of chocolate and talked about old times and new. Martha is smart as a whip, and keeps that huge house in tip-top order all by herself. We took several walks at the lovely park by the river next to the house. Lots of locals were out decorating the park for Christmas, and they were all so friendly. The house is kept as old fashioned as possible. There are electric lights and modern plumbing. You can bathe in an antique clawfoot tub. You'll sleep in antique beds under handmade quilts and blankets. Most of the furniture is antique and original to the house, but very comfortable and beautiful. Heating such a large old house can be tricky, but Martha showed us how to maintain a comfy temperature. Each room has a heater, and rooms that aren't being used are kept closed to save the heat. Martha showed us how to adjust the room heater, provided extra blankets, and we all slept very comfortably. Martha made a simple and delicious hot breakfast of bacon, eggs, muffins, coffee and juice. The house is fascinating and Martha is a treasure. We went to Brookville to see the lake and visit Metamora, but The Hermitage turned out to be the best part."
"This is a nice, historical place to stay. Love the grounds and park next to the hermitage. I had lived around Brookville all my life until 7 years ago and had never been in the hermitage. It was a wonderful place to stay. Martha, the inn keeper was an amazing, sweet lady and very resourceful. She seems like family now."
"At The Hermitage B&B you really get an authentic chance to relax and travel back in time. The owner of the B&B, who I affectionately called Grandma, is an absolutely fascinating lady that loves to entertain. During my stay at The Hermitage, I had the opportunity to spend some time with Grandma and listen to the stories and the history of the building. In addition to conversing with my party and me, Grandma, was willing to bend over backwards to make sure we were enjoying our stay. The historic, Indiana based paintings that adorn the walls are both beautiful and hold historic value from the original owners of the property. The level of detail in the craftsmanship of the building and furnishings is simply amazing. They simply do not build to the same quality today that they did in the first half of the 19th century. Take some time, slow down, and enjoy the conversation. Given the chance, I would bring by future business to The Hermitage without a second thought."
