"I've been disabled since November 2018 and I'll say these have been the worst five years of my life. It started fairly minor with a meniscus tear and shoulder pain. Then it really started getting bad. But to make a long story short, this company gets sued so often because of their lack of morality. Even though I was granted Social Security Disability, it doesn't guarantee Unum is going to stand behind their obligation. I'll just say right now, if you have a claim through Unum, make sure you have a lawyer and your Congressman on standby. I guarantee you're going to need them eventually."

"Extremely slow with paper work. Filed a claim for paternity leave and didn’t receive the paperwork until weeks later. Faxed the paper work back and may take weeks later to input it and nobody knows when I’ll get paid. I wouldn’t have even taken my leave had I known this process was going to be this difficult. (Probably what they hoping for to begin with)"

"If I could give them a 0 I would. Filed a claim for my fractured 3rd meta tarsal in my left foot that I have been out of work for since October on Short Term Disability and in a boot for. They denied the claim twice due to me "filing for plantar fascitis". I didn't file for this at all, even put in the description of the initial claim submission that it was exactly for my fractured 3rd metatarsal in my left foot. But seeing how Plantar Fascitis was just one of the things my doctor found and wrote on the doctor visit information and it just happened to be the first thing on the report, with the findings for my broken 3rd meta tarsal in my left foot being the second sentence in that paragraph which their claim officer clearly didn't read. They denied the first time, I sent appeal with even more information, even the X-Ray itself showing the fracture and taking the time to highlight the exact sentences in the findings stating as such, and sent in the letter for my work as well as further proof. Again, denied the appeal stating again "you have filed for plantar fascitis"..... Total scam, not worth even the $5 they take out per paycheck. Going to post on work discussions also that no other workers apply for this benefit due to it being a money trap. And will be complaining to our HR department as well about it. Just the principal of the matter when you can't even be bothered to read more than the initial sentence, twice, of a doctor visit summary and even then with all the evidence in the world possible showing I have a fracture and you deny a claim stating it was for plantar fascitis and not the result of an accident????? Jesus....... I guess I just like my boot and like having a broken bone in my foot..... Do not use these people for anything, total scam and beyond horrible customer service...."

The staff I've encountered are knowledgeable, kind, and efficient, and I have spoken to Four different people thusfar. Customer service has been great and the website is painless and easy to use."
