"During the process of obtaining a homeowners and auto quote, having a roofing company out to disprove their satellite image of suspposidly damaged roof due to algae, correcting my own insurance company's description of running over a bungee cord and also having them close a duplicate listing of an accident not of my fault, then instead of Amica's senior sales rep arranging for their underwriter to obtain an updated insurance data base report, telling me I must supply documentation Amica was wrong. I ASKED THEIR SENIOR REPRESENTATIVE TO COMPARE THE COST OF OBTAINING THAT REPORT TO THE LOST PRESENT VALUE OF FUTURE REVENUE FROM A NEW CLIENT. NO RESPONSE"
"Many years ago my father, sister, and I had AMICA coverage. I moved and transferred coverage to my new home. AMICA never cancelled the policy at the old address resulting in a past due notice. Several frustrating weeks and many calls and faxes of requested documentation later I was told it was handled. I have not had AMICA insurance for years but decided to shop them when I was pricing potential coverage a few years ago. They refused to quote until I paid the charges that were supposed to have been resolved (and which I did not owe) over 30 years ago. Now that is holding a grudge . . . . for them apparently never having actually correcting their mistake!"
"Customer service is terrible at the local branch. Update: I had a auto and homeowners policy with an engagement ring attached to it. I called to remove the ring, but they kept it. We even had a comprehensive review after my divorce and I had discussed removing the ring. They still didn’t take it off my policy. 1.5 years later and I’m still paying for it and Amica refuses to refund me for something 1) I asked to remove and 2) didn’t own nor possess."
"I have been a customer for over 10 years with multiple policies (home, auto (2) and umbrella). I have always been happy with Amica’s products and claim handling. However after this experience I will be looking elsewhere for home and auto insurance. I recently purchased a home. Amica declined coverage without an explanation or a chance for me to respond to the concerns is unacceptable. I’m guessing it was due to a chimney issue that a home inspector incorrectly identified as “leaning” when in fact it was built that way. As I told the representative on the phone, I had two architects review it and both indicated it was not leaning but rather was constructed that way (corbelled chimney). The mortar joints were straight and not cracked which would not be the case if it was truly leaning which it is not. Had it been requested I likely could have provided documentation from the architects. However I was not even given a chance by the underwriters to do so. Was very frustrating for the underwriters to make an uninformed decision without considering other explanations and without consideration for the loyalty of the customer."
"This insurance company dropped our home owners policy with ZERO warning. All payments have been made ON TIME through mortgage escrow. There was no mail, no call, no email; just nothing. We found out when our mortgage company wrote us a letter that we had been without insurance for a full month. Our claims rep told us to call the 1-800 number when they open as it is after hours. They have only had one claim they have paid for out of three made in two years. Our mortgage company told us on the phone that it was listed as an underwriter reason. We have done nothing wrong. It has to be the claims. Regardless, they HAVE to notify us and they did NOT. We are very on top of our bills and mail and highly organized. Had our home caught fire this past month we would have been homeless; a family of four with nothing. This is illegal. We are taking action immediately."
