"We went to the Helen Devos ER, specifically, upon our pediatrician’s recommendation. The hospital didn’t share test results with us or notify us that the case was labeled a red critical alert based on test results. Instead of performing a surgery immediately as should have been done, they admitted us and made us wait over 16 hours for surgery. The delay caused physical harm and the need for a potential second surgery. While admitted, there was over an 8 hour period where no monitoring occurred. We were not given drug information when we asked (multiple times) for it. And upon reviewing our bills after discharge, we have learned that the room and board at Helen Devos is astronomically higher than anywhere else in the area. I assure it’s not worth the cost. Attempting to resolve our concerns with the hospital has been an unnecessarily long and drawn-out process with lots of run-around and very little help."

"Great hospital. Our child was diagnosed with leukemia in June and we have had many hospital visits and 3+day stays. Everyone from the Dr's and nurses to the cleaning people are amazingly friendly. Everyone on two floors the doctors, nurses and child life can call him by name when they see him in the halls. That just shows how much they care."

"A trip to the ER is never wanted, but I’m grateful to to the Helen Devos Children’s Hospital for making the experience as best as possible. After getting bite on the face by a large dog, my six-year-old daughter and I were dropped off by a good friend on a Sunday morning around 9:15 a.m. Right away, the security guard greeted us empathetically and led us inside. After checking in at the front desk, we were in the back getting treated. After an hour, we were discharged and picked up medicine at the pharmacy at the hospital. Every person we encountered was kind and had good bedside manners. Their demeanor put my daughter at ease. What a great experience!"

"One of the best hospitals we have ever had the privilege of being able to utilize. We have a couple of children with severe health issues, and they are always very friendly with the kids and listen to my concerns. Their staff is amazing, and I mean we have had at least a few that we had issues with, but overall they are amazing there. I can't see me taking my kids anywhere else."

"Daughter had surgery here 2x and both experiences were good. The nurses seem to love kids and are good with them. They brought her movies and toys to entertain her. We happened to be here on the night the community was putting on a light show for the kids, they gave her a kids flash light bubbler toy to shine back at the people outside the windows. Cops ambulances firetruck all were outside with lights on showing support to the kids in the hospital it was so nice to see. The only issue we had was with the person who calls 2 days before gave us wrong info 2x. We were told we could eat applesauce n clear liquids before showing up but that wasn't true we got sent home and had to come back another day. (Was told wrong info again but I knew better this time and made sure to come without eating drinking at all) it was frustrating to have to come back because we drove from over 2 hours away and was only following what their staff said we could have. Other than that the experience was good. The card in mail afterward was appreciated"
