Reviews of Windsor-Laurelwood Center
"This place literally ruined my life. I’ve never experienced anything like it and have PTSD from the experience. I’ll spare the details, but if you love someone, do not send them here for help. They’ll leave worse off. I also caught Covid while I was in there because they didn’t take any precautions when an outbreak was happening and I’ve been dealing with long covid symptoms ever since."
"RUN AWAY, DO NOT GO HERE FOR HELP AND DO NOT SEND A LOVED ONE HERE. They almost KILLED my mother. While she was refusing meds due to acute kidney failure, couldn't walk, could barely talk, the nurses just assumed it was her mental diagnosis. No common sense. Judgemental, negative nurses blinded by their disgust of the patients they are supposed to serve. No compassion. No care. She wouldve been left for DEAD if family didn't force intervention as we knew something was wrong when she stopped calling. It took HOURS of multiple calls for anyone to check on her. Yet they had successfully sent her a bill before she was even out of ICU. This place is a joke. The patients might as well be lab rats. The level of service they provide is straight out of a horror movie. And though small in comparison to everything, they did also steal or lose her designer jean jacket."
"I was there almost 40 years ago. Hard to believe it’s been that long. I don’t know how it is now, how the therapists are, how the doctors treat the kids or how clean the tables are kept but I can tell you back then, laurelwood was a Godsend. I didn’t know it at the time but my life was being saved. Thank you Dr. Jones and to the staff who had faith in me and for teaching me to have faith in myself."
"Not Great. For sake of privacy I am writting this review on an alternative account. I spent my time here Labor Day weekend 2023. Granted, it being a holiday week might have impacted my time, but as other reviews have shared, I have the feeling it is always like this. Arriving Friday morning, my guardians and I were greeted to nobody at the front desk. Waiting 10 minutes for somebody to help us, we were taken to a rundown medical room. They took my vitals (with old and dirty equipment), and then had be change into scrubs. I was told they would check my clothes and Id get the back soon. Later on they brought me up to the adolescent unit. The nurse who brought me was never friendly, unfortunately she worked with the adults. Tables in the unit were dirty, one was covered in flies. The floor was covered in crumbs as they only really cleaned the unit at night. Despite they telling me I had a bed available, I was shocked to hear that I was unable to go into my room until nighttime. We were locked out of our rooms during the day (except “quiet time” before dinner). Guys and Girls were seperated on the unit however the major problem was the girls not getting along. The unit consisted of children 6-17. A bad mix when the older kids want to talk more openly but can’t when there are kids around. Some things I experienced here were: A 10 year old girl going crazy one afternoon and fighting nurses. Another girl having to be dragged out when it was her time to be discharged. The doctor not meeting with me until my discharge day and using my chance to go home as a threat. Misgendering of transgender patients, forcing them to be with their gender at birth even if they didn’t “look” like girls. The phones used were old and quiet, and it was almost impossible to hear the person on the other side. We were only allowed phone time in the evening. We were not permitted to have our cell phones with us during our stay. This did not stop staff from using their phones freely infront of us. One day all we did was watch movies. Overall, I don’t really recommend this place. The only good part was I got put on antidepressants and a diagnosis with depression/anxiety."
"I just got discharged from here yesterday. It was literally terrible. I was on the 1700 unit. I can say I only liked about five staff members. Staff made me feel unwanted and made me feel terrible about myself and my identity. I was told I wasn't a real boy by different staff (I'm a trans male). I was yelled at for sitting with boys. I do want to thank techs Larry, Brittany, and Asianna for making me feel like I was important. Nurses Jodie and Tonya were actual mother figures towards me and I was upset I couldn't say goodbye. Nurse took away my comfort stuffy until I cried and begged for it back. I was literally pulling out my hair because they took it. Staff was constantly yelling and sending us to our rooms because one patient was being too loud. They put my friend on RTU because she was suicidal. Like, instead of isolating them, why not help and support them? Some staff deemed she was faking hallucinations because she was happy before they would occur. Clearly they don't know how to handle those types of situations. Would not recommend this place at all."
