Reviews of MashRoots Latin Street Food | Element Eatery
"We wandered in here late on a Sunday night from the hotel across the street and heard this place was good (ironically from the Ramen place that had run out of noodles). They had run out of ingredients for the Cuban sandwich my hubby had wanted and the guy was super apologetic. We decided to share the Who Dey bowl--delicious!--and even gave us a free beef empanada to make up for the Cubano. Super kind and really great service. Highly recommend!"
"I heard good things about this place and wanted to try it. Unfortunately, the mofongo was very dry and the whole dish was so extremely salty I thought about not finishing it. I wish I hadn’t finished it, since I ended up just hurting my stomach since it was so salty."
"Used to stop by with quite a bit of frequency to take food home on my way home. Probably won't be back again unless they stop charging tax on to-go orders. They seem to be blaming element eatery for it yet other occupants don't charge tax on their to go orders. Their mofongo is not particularly authentic it just tastes like mashed plantains. Good mofongo is mixed with crushed pork belly and spices. Theirs is just dry and resembles wet cardboard. The meat additions and sauces are what makes it edible."
"Absolutely ridiculous. I just had this for lunch, I regret not taking a picture. It was absolutely ridiculously delicious. Can't believe it took me this long to try it. I did a bowl with: pork, plantain, corn tomatillo, vinaigrette, slaw, garlic cilantro, and spicy mayo. Did a small bowl which was plenty of food. It was ready quickly during lunchtime, had great service and friendly staff...I just wish they had an independent location that was a little closer to me. But I will continue to make the trip back so that I can try the rest of the menu."
"This place has a solid menu of South American dishes, with several things I'd want to try at first glance. I went for the Who Dey bowl -- it was a good portion, though 80% of it chicken (barely any sweet potato/slaw in the bowl); the chicken had a subtle heat and decent flavor, and the little sweet potato that was there was actually a good compliment for the chicken; the bowl was swimming in mayo and there was a "pool" at the bottom of the bowl which was kind of offputting. Per my lady, the classic burger was decent and the yuca fries were un-seasoned. If you're accustomed to the good flavors/textures of South American dishes, this place might not get the job done for you, but it could be a decent/filling meal if you're not looking for anything special."
