"When a school district gives power to people who suspend students for "liking" a picture of an airsoft, or any other gun, on social media, all involved should be immediately dismissed for incompetence."
"I'd like to point out a few things, but a little background (of me) might be in order. I've been in the NRA for about 40 years. I am a gunsmith, and have been in the Military Intelligence community. Nothing big, but I was there during the Cold War. I was a classified documents courier for the 56th Field Artillery (Pershing 1A IRBM) . That was a nuclear missile, by the way. A quick reading of the documents that this school district publishes on their website was very interesting. It had to do with bullying and the like. The school district has committed itself to prevent bullying, especially while dating. Or publishing bullying attacks on social media. This seems to be in accordance with the law of the State of Ohio. I couldn't read all of that in the last few hours, but I'd like to put forth a scenario. First: Preventing Bullying. I didn't see anything authorizing a proactive approach - spying on the kids' social pages - but I don't know if there is anything that says you can't. Especially if you are a piddling little bureaucrat who has a too-big image of himself. Second: The evidence! A "Like" next to a gun - he might not have known if it was a real one - and the cryptic notation of "ready." Ol' Dudley Do-Right got excited and then he screwed up. Now, I'll grant you that this could be seen from a certain direction as being foreboding. Kind of a Tom Clancy sort of thing. But somewhere along the way, Mr. Fussnecker came to the conclusion that the boy was no danger. Well, he couldn't change his mind in mid-stream. That would be embarrassing, and no bureaucrat can accept embarrassment in the public eye. So he went and did the worst thing he could do. and now he's paying."
"Glad I have no one in this school system. Suspension for liking an AIRGUN!!! So ridiculous. In our school system, Our ELEMENTARY kids bring their archery equipment into school. Last time I saw a kid do that, he had a new bow. The vice-principle was just as excited and they broke it out right there in the hall!"
"An Edgewood Middle School student was handed a 10-day suspension for “liking” a picture of an airsoft gun on Instagram... need I say more."
"I have some serious concerns about the student who was suspended, and may be expelled for liking a picture of a gun on instagram. My son is a student here. He loves hunting and shooting. Both of us are concerned what the school may do to him if they see any picture of him at a range or hunting. If this school is going to continue with this anti-American policy, I will be removing him from this school."
