Reviews of Heritage Motorcar Research Inc
"This shop built the engine in my Porsche 944 Turbo and it is a monster! Car makes 400 wheel horsepower on 15 pounds of boost and never skips a beat. At VIR the car runs consistently in the low 2 minutes when on street tires and breaks into the 1:50s on slicks on a very modest setting. Great work."
"Outrageous prices, tries to lock you into a contract while the owner hasn't a single clue what im telling him about my car. I wanted to test his knowledge by asking why my diesel engine is stuttering as if it were a spark plug issue.. and the dude said it WAS a spark plug issue. I know im not the only one who sees the problem with this statement about my diesel engine. Do yourselves a favor and stay away from here. Just scam artists."
"I had a very negative, even traumatic experience with Jason Lee of HMR (Heritage Motorcar Research Inc). He took my project on in 2014, took deposits from me amounting to $15,000 dollars, ignored my attempts to contact him via phone or email sometimes for months on end, reneged on a written contract, and delivered my project 3.5 years late at more than 2x his original estimate -- I had to pay it to get my car out. It would have been fine if the engine were correct, but it was not. Among other issues with the design of the build, the finishing mechanic discovered egregious, horrific hardware store washers installed underneath all 24 valve clearance shims, which surely would eventually have been pulverized, distributing tiny metal fragments throughout the internals of my motor which likely would have destroyed it. This is because Jason Lee cut the valves too short, couldn't source the correct thickness shims, and apparently decided to use these hardware store washers to make up the difference -- I never got an explanation from him for this, and in my view, it is tantamount to sabotage. It is my advice to avoid this individual at all costs; I believe he defrauded me and I am in touch with other customers of his that he is currently doing the same to. If you have a project with him, it would be my advice to do whatever it takes to pull it; I wish that I had. In total I spent $36,000 with Jason Lee, and I'll have to spend another $20,000 with someone else to make the engine right. Edit: The second builder discovered a litany of additional issues following teardown, any of which would have cratered the engine by or before 1000 miles."
"While I find it unfortunate that things could not be resolved in a more diplomatic manner, I feel as though I would be remise to not spread the word that, in my opinion, any dealings with this company or with the owner would be a grave mistake. I must say that this company gives little regard for your time or money. Not only that but as a supposed automotive enthusiast I had assumed that they would understand the endless amount of time, thought, and emotional investment that goes into planning and preparing a performance vehicle. These vehicles are cherished processions for we enthusiasts, the endless hours that we have devoted to our passion for automobiles comes at a cost; Of course there is the monetary, but also the emotional investment, the vulnerability of handing over our vehicles into the care of another for enhancements and alterations....I feel as though I digress and and fully logical recanting of the tale not peppered with emotional interludes may not be possible...however Please...Please....PLEASE...I urge you to take caution and to do your due diligence before entering into any agreements or contracts with this company or the owner....caveat emptor they say is the way of things, and I am would be willing to wager that Mr. Lee has based his entire business model on this ideal."
