Reviews of Odyssey Moving Group
"If I could give zero stars, I would. My family has done 7 moves in 10 years; some were across state lines, some were inner-city, and some were urban to suburban. This particular move was a mix of all three. Moving is never fun. But this experience, facilitated by Odyssey was the absolute worst we've ever had. Buyer beware: Odyssey is a broker who will sell you literally promise anything by phone ("we can do a free month of storage!" "we move over holidays and weekends!" "we have tons of experience disassembling and re-assembling furniture!") to get you hooked by what seems like a great deal. Once they collect your deposit, they don't care about your actual experience, and you essentially have no recourse to hold them accountable. They selected a moving company (Glass City Movers) who were totally unprofessional and ill-equipped to do what should have been an uncomplicated move. We were moving some furniture and a few boxes from a house in Pittsburgh to an apartment in Brooklyn - the majority of our property was moved by us in advance. Glass City's movers damaged both our furniture AND our house. The customer service was also egregious; we tried to go directly to them to file complaints and were stonewalled the whole way. We then went back to Odyssey to file a complaint. I spoke with an individual named Caleb by phone. He followed up by email saying I'd get a response within a few days at the latest. That was literally the last we've heard from them - I left three voicemails and four emails as follow-ups. All unreturned. We're now pursuing action through our credit card companies and our bank. I rarely leave reviews and always try to be supportive of small businesses. I don't want to be wasting my time on this. But this experience was so horrible I feel compelled to warn off anyone who gets entranced by the pricing - just spend the extra money and do the extra research to go with a real moving company. I would never use Odyssey again."
"This company seems very reliable at the beginning with amazing reviews but they will continue to let you down through out the entire move. First off, I spoke with Shane who seemed very knowledgeable on the process and even let me send over pictures to verify my quote ensuring I got an accurate estimate. I even sent a bullet listed document with counts of all items. I was moving from a storage unit where all item were packed from a 1 bedroom apartment. Leading up to the move, I spoke frequently with Alexis about the increased price with stairs that I was never informed about during the booking process. Per Alexis the company would refund me prior to the move. (This never happened). I also spoke with Cody the day prior to my move to ask about the cashiers check required for pick up and how much I needed to suffice the movers as I had family completing step one of the move on my behalf. Day of pick up, WORST DAY EVER. The company hired through odyssey to move my belongings from GA to TN said my cashiers check was not enough despite being told by Cody it would be. Then this company quoted an additional $2000 more to my move because of items they deemed “bulky” and getting it there within the time requested from my reservation. I spoke with Alexis prior to agreeing to pay. Alexis NEVER followed up on my concerns and did not provide help. I had to pay to get my belongings. The moving company hired with odyssey would not load and unload until they had payment in either cashiers check or cash. If I wanted my belongings I had to pay or who knows where they would have taken my items. Almost 2 months (Dec - Feb) now after my move I still do not have my refund guaranteed and have to keep calling. Only Cody will answer phone in customer service, clearly no one else works for Odyssey. And Alexis has yet to follow up with me from my moving day concerns. DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY UNLESS YOU LIKE BEING BLINDSIDED WITH THOUSANDS OF DOLLARS IN EXTRA FEES."
"UPDATE: 1 month later after an annoying process to file a claim with ANOTHER 3rd party company that handles the claims, we were given $82 for all the damage and loss we incurred. The guy at Odyssey told me we were fully covered/insured with our "white glove, hands off move", but we were only given $0.60 per lb. of damage/loss. $82... for over $4k in damage and loss. The things that DID NOT EVEN MAKE IT to our house cost more than $82, let alone the damage to the stuff that did make it. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- NC --> CA. Dealing with Odyssey went well.. at first. I got what I thought was an accurate quote, communication went well, and then came time for pickup. Your stuff will be handed off to a 3rd party moving company and they are the ones handling your stuff. They seemed efficient and moved everything out quickly, but they barely spoke English so it was hard to communicate. A few things were not disassembled (like the contract said it would), and got damaged, even though disassembly is part of the 'white glove' treatment. I was charged $150 at pickup due to long carry and stairs. When I asked Odyssey about it on the contract at first, they said the moving companies were pretty lenient and not to worry about, even though I told him about the stairs and distance, and they didn't put it in the quote. Fine. And then I got charged $265 extra for packing supplies. I showed the mover the contract that everything would be wrapped, and asked why I got charged extra. They said that it only covered the blankets, but not the shrink wrap and packing tape. $265 for shrink wrap- from a moving company…. The mover never mentioned doing any of this to me before they loaded the truck. Very unprofessional, but I said ok - I needed my stuff moved and maybe it would offer better protection for my things. So $415 extra at pickup. 3.5 weeks later, we get our stuff. Some things never made it to the destination, and others were damaged. Additionally, I had to hire my own movers, and rent a truck to save me from an EXTRA $800 for shuttle service, long carry, and stairs at the destination. Be aware of the nickel and diming that this company will screw you on. Mind you, I was honest with everything by from the get go to try to avoid additional fees so I knew what I would be billed for. I saw the way the movers handled our stuff and others that were loaded on the same truck, not good. The reason I went with Odyssey was due to professionalism at first (which was lies to get you to sign the contract), the fact that it was 'hands off' moving, and the hope that my stuff would get cross country without damage. I do not know how this company has 4.8 stars. I may up my rating depending on how customer service handles my claim for all the damage to a desk, bookshelf, $4000 couches, end tables, patio furniture (pictures attached). I am putting the damage claim in today so I will update this post at a later date about how they handle that."
"This company is terrible. I chose them because they had good ratings and Jamie appeared professional and polite, but my experience has been extremely disappointing. These people will tell you whatever you want to hear, but it is a ruse. I had pick up on December 23 and was told it would be no problem to have them delivered the first week of January. It is January 21 and I still have no idea where my boxes are or when they will come. The drivers showed up for pickup and charged me extra for long-distance and elevator, which was not mentioned in the initial quote, and then tried to lie and convince me that my boxes exceeded the cubit feet limit because I had a few more boxes than originally planned (which, altogether, are FAR less than than the cubic feet I am paying for). I disagreed and they dropped it, but it goes to show how unscrupulous these people are. They lie to you and act polite to get you to agree, then nickel and dime you and deliver your boxes late, if at all. Looking back on these reviews, the earlier series of 5-star reviews look completely fake. The sentence structure is similar between them, no grammatical errors, and one 5-star review after another about how perfect and professional the service is, which completely goes against the more authentic and varied reviews over the past few months. I suspect this company make a bunch of fake reviews based on how fake and deceitful everything else has been. There's a shortage of movers right now in general, so it's not all their fault, but the deceitfulness and lack of professionalism absolutely are. I wish I had gone with another company. I will update when I get my boxes (if I get my boxes)."
"I have never written a Google review before, but I feel I must - DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY. This has been a surreal and terrible experience. Moved from NC to WA. We want to help others avoid having an experience like we had... Everything started off seemingly well - then, once the contract was signed and our stuff was picked up, everything changed. We were told we would receive updates as our stuff traveled, which did not happen - only when I called repeatedly (once they were 2 plus weeks late especially) did we get an update of any kind. We were supposed to receive 24 hours of notice for delivery, but we received 2 hours and was told I could only provide the final payment in cash or Zelle...directly to the driver. Strange. I frantically withdrew an absurd 1100 dollars cash as I was told, upon asking customer support, to "get extra out in case there are fees as determined by the driver"...I was flabbergasted, but we were desperate to get our things (as I am now realizing they probably knew...we had little to no power in this situation). Our things arrive, the driver was nice at first...we tipped him handsomely. We attempted to return a box that was not ours multiple times but were told repeatedly that it was our "number." The box was full of clothing, socks and such...I even personally brought it back to the truck, but he did not believe me. Later, the driver yelled at my partner on the phone because of this. It was unreal. We have several valuable items missing - including a desktop computer. Some of what did arrive is damaged. This is a total nightmare. There is a very unclear and highly complicated process for claims that, according to the contract, will likely require a fee to even begin the process. It is absolutely nuts. Please, if you find yourself in need of a service like this, do not, DO NOT, use this company. There are several reviews like mine that corroborate similar experiences and details. These reviews are recent as well. Be safe out there."
