319 SOS

319 SOS is a night club located at 195 Brims Street, Hurlburt Field, Florida, United States. However, it is not your typical night club - it is actually the 319th Special Operations Squadron (SOS). The mission of the 319th SOS is to provide a manned, fixed-wing, on-call/surge capability for improved tactical airborne intelligence, surveillance, and reconnaissance (ISR) in support of Special Operations Forces (SOF). They use the U-28A aircraft, a modified Pilatus PC-12, which has a crew of four and is known for its versatile performance and ability to operate from short and unimproved runway surfaces. The institution has a rich lineage, dating back to its activation in 1944 and has gone through several re-designations over the years. The 319th SOS has been involved in various operations throughout its history, providing airlift support, conducting airborne drop and glider operations, and more. The institution has received several honors and awards, including the Air Force Outstanding Unit Award with Valor and the Meritorious Unit Award. The emblem of the 319th SOS features symbols representing the sky, the sun, valor, protection, readiness, and their global area of operation. This unique institution combines the excitement of a night club with the dedication and professionalism of a Special Operations Squadron.

"I was stationed at Hurlburt (Auxiliary Field #9) in the 319 SOS from 1970-1973. Back then we were part of TAC. I was an airborne radar repairman and was assigned to the COM/NAV/INST Shop. Worked on C-123’s mostly but there were lots of other birds there back then like C-130’s, C-119’s, A1E’s, Huey’s, OV-10’s and occasionally F-4’s. They used to train pilots to fly there from Viet Nam. I was a boy when I got there but a man when I left. I’m 75 now and have been lots of places and done lots of things but I can truthfully say my fondest memories are from time spent at Hurlburt. Anywhere, anytime, anyplace!"
