"As a home owner, I have been shopping at City Electric (Mercer Ave location) for about 2 years and have spent thousands that although is not a big purchase in the scheme of overall monthly sales, is still profit that helps the business stay afloat. Today I called and asked if they offered delivery for home owners and I was told the following: “Yes we do, but the driver leaves around 7 am and already has his route so if you purchase today it won’t be delivered until tomorrow” Can I pay over the phone ? “No sir you will have to come onsite and pay in person” Ok perfect, I will be there in a few… and if it can be delivered tomorrow that will be great. It just few conduits that I have to buy again. “Sure no problem see you when you get here” Then once I arrived two young guys told me: “No we don’t do delivery for home owners, or if the amount is too low … “ I told them I was told otherwise and after all.. the amount wasn’t going to be that low..for sure over $300 and I emphasized that I have spent thousands of dollars at their store and yet they repeated the same nonsense. I’m a small business owner, and as I analyzed this… I think.. who in the right mind who is a business owner will only offer delivery to someone who has an account like an electrician but not a home owner who is actually buying their products ? Why would they charge re-stocking fee for minor items such as conduit or elbows where it gives a bad image to the business and sends home owners else where or online where they are not charged stocking fees or a fee to return an unused item. No wonder why Amazon is taking over and small business like these are failing because whoever is making these decisions does not have common sense at all. Yes I understand that takes men hours to re-stock… but I have seen your young guys just standing there and doing nothing… your store is pretty much empty after 11 am, and even if they are doing some work in the back… I know there isnt much to do.. because I do not see the influx of customers in the parking lot the numerous times I have been at your store. The owners of this branch need to re-think their business logic regarding re-stocking fees and the customer service provided to home owners because after all.. we are the reason (a percentage of) your contractors purchase items from you in the first place. Who cares if someone has an account or not, whether they are a contractor or not. The most important factor is to sell your product regardless who buys it! Because after all that’s what keeps you in business .. that you sell.. not who you sell to and services and treatment should be given the same to anyone that walks into your store."
