Sugar Express

"We did the Clewiston to Lake Placid train ride and really enjoyed both the city of Clewiston and the Lake Placid areas-- the comfortable ride was very scenic thru miles of sugarcane and orange groves -- The train staff folks were very personable and answered any questions asked--so overall it was a nice day. I took away one star because I had hoped it would be more educational-- (info about US Sugar, Florida Crystals, and the sugar industry, agriculture and history things like that**) .. but this ride wasn't about that. I think they could do more with this event, but perhaps in this case it really is all about the ride :-) **PS: if you are looking for that kind of info we found it in the Clewiston Museum so be sure to stop in there."

"We rode the Christmas excursion with the grandchildren and they loved it. Refreshments, Christmas music and decor, Santa and a Grinch ( both were awesome and interactive) encounters too. Perfect little adventure, Clewiston's mini version of the Polar Express. I hope it grows and brings many years of happy memories for families ❤️"

"We did the 2 hr train ride between Lake Placid and Clewiston, the old steam locomotive was a beautiful sight. Unfortunately only one person was checking people in and there was a very long line. Our favorite part was to stand by the open areas/doors to look outside while the train was moving. Nice landscapes and scenery. On the way down our car was very cold and they played old jazz music too loud over the speakers. Luckily on the way back there was no music and the temp was comfortable. We were bused to Clewiston where there was not much to do, the market had 3 booths the day we went so we spent our time at the very cozy coffee shop that had very good croissants and friendly staff. The trip seems to be the best fit for retirees."

"I've been on Sugar Express more than half a dozen times since their first excursions, and it's great to see them continue to evolve. There is so much history in the steam and diesel locomotives, passenger cars, and the railroad where they operate. Of course, steam engine #148 (and soon #1504!) is the main highlight. From ice cream trains and Santa trains to multi-day excursions through the sugarcane fields, Sugar Express is a unique tourist railroad that is a must-do in the Glades area."
