"I had one of the best solar eclipse tour with Eclipse Traveler. Their attention to detail, customer service and professionalism exceeded my expectations. We were one of the few groups to see the total solar eclipse in Chile, thanks to Cenghis's arrangements to find the perfect spot. I would love to travel with them again."
"Bait and switch, you tell me.... This is easily one of the harder reviews I’ve had to write because I don't like to write anything bad. First off, the eclipse was amazing and the tour guides that eclipse traveler contracted out were great. Although I do think the eclipse would have been amazing with or without eclipse traveler. The tour guides are locals and contractors so not really fair to bring them into this since if I was going to rate them, they would be 5 stars. The reason I gave two stars is because this was a bait and switch. When we booked our tour the website had an itinerary that as we got closer to the event, changed completely. Of course by this time we were outside the cancellation period and we could not get a refund. Here is a summary of the trip. Day 1, arrive in Santiago and make your way to the hotel for a presentation. Day 2, leave Santiago and do a little tour on the way out and made way to the airport where we flew to a northern city and took a bus to the hotel. Essentially Day 2 was a tiny tour followed by a lot of sitting on airplanes and buses. Day 3 we woke up earlier and had to leave at 7am to get to our eclipse viewing location about 4 hours away (in the opposite direction from where we came the day before). The location wasn’t bad other than the telephone poles and wires in the way. The eclipse was still great but it was a long day since we didn’t get back to the hotel until around 11pm. The next day we were on the road again at 7am where we passed the view location on the way to eat lunch in La Serena. After lunch we headed back in the opposite direction to see where an alcohol is made and a tiny school. Then back to la Serena for dinner. The next day we woke up and went to the observatory (a location we’ve now driven past about 5 times) and then drove back to la Serena. Today is the final day and I write from the hotel after a long day of bus rides and air travel. To summarize the trip, we spent more time on buses driving past the same locations multiple times than we did actually enjoying or seeing Chile. What happened was simple, the 2017 eclipse hit and they went from a company that would be thrilled to have 40 guests to a company who sold over 130 tickets. The itinerary was redacted because they sold more than they could fit and so the fun stuff we were supposed to do was scratched off. If you’re looking to see an eclipse and don’t care about anything else but that, this company will get you there. If you’re actually looking to go on a tour with more than just the eclipse and really enjoy the location, this isn’t for you. If you just want to see the eclipse, take a 3 day tour and save a ton of money. If you absolutely love long bus rides with toilets that don’t work or buses that smell of mold, eclipse traveler is absolutely the best place to turn to. The good news is that of the 130+ people on the trip, maybe 1 or 2 will book again so the next tour will probably be a nice small one and you’ll get to do the fun stuff we were unable to do. I will say that they did put us in nice hotels (well some of us but that’s for another time) although their poor logistics meant we never had the chance to enjoy the hotels. Oh well, lesson learned. Do more research when booking a tour company and make sure they cap the number of guests. Imagine if you were going to Disney in Orlando and you flew into Miami, drove through Disney to get to your hotel in Jacksonville. The next day went to Disney in Orlando then back to Jacksonville. The following day you drove to Tampa through Orlando where you spent the night only to drive back to Orlando the following day. You never really had the chance to enjoy Jacksonville, Orlando, or Tampa because you spent most of the time driving between them in heavy traffic. That is a layman's description of what the trip. This could have easily been fixed by a child with a basic understanding of making as few trips across the same highway as possible would mean more time enjoying places/things. But then again if you want to save money as a company, this is how to do it."
"I have seen 16 eclipses so far and this one was the best so far. Our eclipse location was excellent and we had the clearest sky. I am impressed with their knowledge of facilitating such a large group with ease and utmost professionalism. We were in the middle of nowhere and they served hot lunch and drinks. They though about all details from portable bathrooms to a generator to charge all equipment. Highly recommend Eclipse Traveler to all eclipse chasers."
