Reviews of North Hyde Park apartment
"2023 UPDATE: Current owners who bought this multi-dwelling property for $2.4 million dollars have now decided to sell the property along with the other one across the street(same 2021 purchase - see below) for an asking price of $4.2 million. It was listed 8/2022. This is greedy capitalism at its finest They disrupted the lives of 10 good people who had lived in the building for quite some time just so they could try to double their money. Excellent, respectful & responsible humans were driven away. It appears the few new tenants residing here now are paying higher rents but they are not treating the property with care. Something easily observable when you visit the space. Prospective buyers beware. 2022 UPDATE: Building was bought by out of state investors based from New York in summer 2021. Rents were reasonable at an average of $850. New owners increased rents to $1,795 for a 1/1 within 30 days +/- of their purchase. Me and all of my neighbors have since moved due to this crazy increase. The building is okay but not for these prices. A prime example of investors price gouging and perpetuating the notion of greed. It is not fancy at all. The building is from the late 1920's. Interior of building is kept fairly clean. It's a quiet building. Apartments are okay, lots of natural light. Some are upgraded with granite and stainless steel appliances. For the price and location it's doable as long as you do not mind a no frills space. The building has slowly been repaired and updated as needed. There is a new property maintenance crew who take pride in their work. The owner could stand to invest in painting the exterior, clean the landscape up and do further sprucing up."
"Disgusting place. Very old building and falling apart. I had a severe issue with palmetto bugs and German cockroaches that was never addresssed when brought to the Barb’s (the landlord) attention. The palmetto bugs were leaving coffee bean sized sacks everywhere, which contain about 40-50 baby roach eggs! Constantly found roach poop in the drawers and even found a roach sack in my freezer! I am by no means a dirty bird and I don’t know about how cleanly my neighbors were. The guy that goes around and fixes apartment problems is a liar and treks dirt in your apartment without cleaning it up. The guy even smeared white paint on my bed sheets and didn’t bother to tell me at all. I had a window out in my bathroom since Hurricane Irma which was never replaced and still probably isn’t. I went a straight year with a piece of wood nailed to the outside of where the bathroom window used to. Completely unacceptable. The windows leaked for what seemed like every other month. They would just come out and do a half baked caulking job to “fix it” and call it a day. I even had water leak in to the light fixture in the kitchen! From all the condensation and moisture, red mold grew in my bathroom and I even had vegetation growing out of the walls. They never did anything about it after multiple complaints. The rent is low and it may seem amazing to live in South Tampa for what the rent is. But do yourself a favor and avoid the nightmare I went through. When my fiancé and I moved, we had to meticulously check every job to make sure there were no roaches or roach eggs in them. The place should not be up for rent to anyone. Stay away."
