"Where do I begin… This firm was my father’s CPA for several years. He passed away in July 2022 and my brother and I stepped in to run and close down/sell his company. In seven months, we paid around $10,000 in CPA fees. The last bill was around $4000 of which I wondered about as I was the one who completed all the quarterly reports. I even tallied and gave Rick the CPA the income numbers for all W2, 1099 records. All he did was literally fill in the blanks. Other than that, he spent maybe a few hours of phone correspondence with our attorney relevant to a buy sell agreement we were putting together. Not a major workload for $4000 but attempting to take the highroad, I paid the bill. What really disappointed me, however, was his total lack of professionalism when I contacted him about the urgent need to obtain amortization records of several loans a month later. Some we’re relevant to legal foreclosure issues I could not wait on. Getting this information to me would probably have taken a total of thirty minutes tops. His response via email surprised me: “I’m too busy. Do not contact me until May 1!” which was six weeks away. Reviewing the books over several years, my father’s company had probably paid this firm over $100,000 in CPA services. The fact we we’re winding the business down due to a death really did not matter to this firm apparently. I even offered as a compromise to wait until a few days after the tax deadline. This, however, was not good enough. Rick’s response was to terminate our relationship. In hindsight, it was probably for the best given the other negative comments I have recently read about this business online. When I relayed what had transpired to my other CPA (I also own two other businesses) and our attorney, they were shocked and suggested I file a complaint with the DPBR. Doing that next. Word to the wise: look for a better more professional CPA firm."
