Reviews of Hilltop Motel
"Ms.Dorothy , The nice sweet kind hearted lady that works in the office is such an amazing person she was very friendly . My experience was great my room was very clean and my beds were extremely comfortable great place for first text visitors needing a home away from home."
"So first off when we got there initially, we were told 75, and then when she saw we had children, she charged us 85. Which is per night, and if your stuck paying that everyday because you don't have 350 to 375 dollars a week, then u do the math 85 x 7 is like 600 bucks. No flat screen TV, no maid service, your not allowed to have guests, and to be honest that is just too much. Couldn't even give us a free day or anything, those rooms r worth no way near 600 a week, and she knew we had children. Saw her turn down a man because he had too much stuff(same amount I had in my room) and she was telling at him and everything, literally same day she rented it out to a white couple who had the same if not more items with them then the black man. Who had to take off work, and then sit outside with all his stuff, constantly being harassed, knowing he talked to her the night before, and had to find another hotel and call a cab and spend more money and lose a days of work. If I was you I just wouldn't bother going. She is a rip off, she seems nice, but just go ahead and stay a couple days, you will soon see. Really sucks, cause I am a HUGE reviewer and she obviously doesn't know what that does for business. Can't have visitors, but you can have prostitutes soliciting outside the rooms before 11am, because that's when she gets there to the motel. Okay end of my rant. Just don't go. Same prices if not cheaper, right down the road and budget and travel in or Hillcrest."
"Not okay. Sadly. Really nice polish woman. Clean up keep. But it's choppy and dangerous. Found a crack pipe in my pillow case and was immediately applaud and out of that place.. Luckily refunded."
"The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly... and honest review. Stayed here for 1 night and will not be back. The GOOD: I found the owner to be a nice woman and easy to get along with. The microwave in the room was new. The location was surprisingly quiet considering the neighborhood. There is internet access and it was a very good connection. The BAD: This place looks as though it hasn't been updated since the late 1970's or possibly early 1980's and that includes the mattresses! The bed was uncomfortable (to put it nicely), the mix matched furniture was old and brittle (I had a chair break as I went to sit down), the "kitchen" was gross, the mini fridge was rusted, the bathroom sink (and other furnishings) had cigarette burn marks on it, the bathroom door did not close all the way, the towels were as thin as paper, and there was no smoke detectors. No heat in the room (it was 45 degrees outside) but we were given 1 small space heater to use (it did nothing). The UGLY: This is a "seedy" neighborhood that is known for drugs, prostitutes and homeless folks. I did not encounter any of that during my stay, but it was very cold out. There are roaches, we found a few wandering around the kitchen area. I was charged about the same as the other motels just a few minutes away (in better shape and in better neighborhoods) but I had a dog with me and this was the only pet friendly place with availability."
"I was staying at another hotel chain and was forced to evacuate due to hurricane Irma and this was the first place to answer that had vacancy. What she failed to mention over the phone was that she only accepts cash/money orders. So keep that in mind if you decide to come here. The rates are what you'd expect of a "cash only" place, and if you don't mind feeling like someone could push their way into your room with one good shove then you'll be fine. Best and worst things about this place: Worst - 1. Rooms reek of stale smoke and only after about 3 days of febreeze and candles do I no longer smell it. Maybe I just got used to it. 2. Pillows are the thinnest things possible. I ended up buying some at the Family Dollar down the street along with some pillowcases. I will not be bringing them with me because of point #3.... 3. On night 3 I saw a bed bug crawling over the sheets I covered the bed with. I would have high-tailed it out if it wasn't for the fact the hurricane was literally passing through at the same time. Needless to say, I will also be leaving my sheets here as well. 4. Not the best a/c, even by hotel/motel standards. The window unit gives out good air, that is then promptly stopped by a wall effectively cutting off the airflow to any other part of the room aside from the kitchenette area. Invest in a small fan to keep on you while you sleep or to pull the air in from the other half of the room. 5. Has a history of drug and prostitution issues which i only found out after I paid. 6. Says wifi is available but I have not been able to connect to any signals with the password provided. The cake is a lie. 7. The TV is a 19" CRT TV so don't plan on amazing picture. Best - 1. Cheap and does what you need if you don't mind the above issues. 2. Management is hard to understand, but very friendly. She even went so far as to turn on the a/c and tv while I was enroute to retrieve my things from my other hotel so that the room was cool(ish) when I returned. 3. Held up through the hurricane, which is ultimately exactly what I needed. The county-wide power outage is a whole different issue and not something the motel could control. 4. Allows pets for a small fee. Ample space on motel property to allow them room to do what they need, which is actually lovingly landscaped and maintained. 5. The mattresses, while thin, are surprisingly comfortable. Normally innerspring mattresses give me awful back pain, but the little 5" one on the bed gave me no issues at all as far as pain. Perhaps point #5 above is why? Too long; didn't read - good for what it is but bring your own pillows and sheets you don't mind leaving behind, bring a fan, and enough cash to cover your stay as she can't run debit or credit cards."
