Reviews of Carlson Dental Group
"I've been a patient here for 6+ years. I changed dentists on the suggestion of my teenage son after our previous dentist retired. What teenager recommends a dentist????? Well, he was right!! Carlson dental group is amazing. They are careful, thorough, gentle, mindful, and quick all at the same time. Never more than a 5 minute wait any time I've been there. I've NEVER had them "recommend" work that didn't need to be done or try to tack on extra services that are not needed. They always ask if I have any concerns and completely answer those concerns before proceeding to complete the routine services that I am there for. I've been lucky enough to remain with the same hygienists (Amy & Tyra) the entire time I've been a patient there. They have become great friends and THAT is the kind of healthcare we should all be so lucky to have!! The docs are fantastic, as well. I've not needed one for anything other than a routine exam........... but they have still been professional and "human" as opposed to stiff and "clinical!' HIGHLY RECOMMEND CARLSON DENTAL GROUP!!!"
"Nice facility but I had a terrible experience. Judge for yourself. I'm not exaggerating just my experience. I have suffered from TMJ since I was a teenager. I have had horrible flare up for many months so I researched Botox for tmj. My first visit I asked for Botox but like all of them he said first we need to do $800 night guard. It will be better than the other 4 you have. So I agreed. He said if it didn't work we would do Botox and gave me written estimate. Well it didn't work... went back for the Botox. Hope it works. They would not honor written estimate and charged me substantially more. Since he was one that said to wait after wearing my $800 guard. I think he should have honored my quote. I told him nicely how I felt and if my pain had not been so bad I would have went elsewhere. The extra money was more important than keeping a patient."
"Horrible experience. Find a dentist that is honest about pricing. I have been a patient at the Bartram Park office for over 5 years. I recently visited the location to have 3 fillings done. I was provided pricing after a cleaning and scheduled the appointment for a few weeks out. I went in for the fillings and was charged $377.24 for the 3 fillings. About 2 weeks later I received an EOB from my provider that listed the total at $133.60. I called the office to inquire as to why the amounts were different and was told that the extra amounts would not show up on my EOB because Carlson Dentistry uses a "newer form of technology" that the insurance companies do not recognize and that the $279.00 difference would not show up on my EOB because insurance companies do not recognize it nor cover it. I was also told that I should have been advised that they would be utilizing this "new technology" and that I should have been given the opportunity to opt out if I chose. I was NEVER given the opportunity to opt out nor was I advised that this was a "new technology" that I would be directly charged for that would not be covered under my insurance. I will not be returning to this office and I would advise anyone to steer clear from this place. It is COMPLETELY dishonest for any healthcare provider to charge someone directly for what they describe as "new technology". This place is a scam and they are completely dishonest. If you do happen to continue to go, PLEASE be overly diligent when provided ANY sort of billing information as they will provide ZERO empathy or help after the fact. What a joke."
"By far the best dentist that my husband and I have both ever gone to! We love both of the Carlson Dental Group locations in Jacksonville, the kindness and helpfulness of the staff, and the professionalism! Every visit we have had, we are always warmly welcomed, treated like a real person rather than just another patient, and everyone on the staff is so friendly! As someone who dreads going to the dentist, this is the first office I have ever been a patient at that I leave pleasantly surprised every time at how quick, easy, and gentle the hygienists are! 10/10 recommend Carlson Dental Group!"
"DO NOT GO TO THIS DENTIST! They just about destroyed my mouth for what should have been a simple procedure. I went in for a cleaning and was told I needed a crown – ok, no problem. The office staff will try to sell you their ‘Advanced Techniques’ (it’s a warranty) for $149 which is a scam to make more money. I went up front to get my cost breakdown, and saw the $149 added. I told Erika that I would not need that, as I am moving away next week and would not be able to use the warranty if something went wrong. She told me that Dr. Carlson requires the warranty on any of his work (really, can he not complete the work where the warranty isn’t needed?) and told me that I’d have to switch my appointment to a different dentist in their office if I didn’t want the warranty. She didn’t care that I was moving and would get no value out of this. I asked her to proceed with making an appointment with another dentist in their office. She told me that if I declined the warranty, they wouldn’t be able to rush my permanent crown even though the dentist told me they could do it same-day. I’m not sure what a warranty has to do with getting my permanent crown made quicker. She told me to sign on the line stating I was declining the warranty; the line she told me to sign on was the spot ACCEPTING the warranty. Another effort to try and get me to accept their scam warranty. Now for the fun part. The crown requires two appointments – the first is to prep the tooth for the crown (roughly two hours), and the second is to get your permanent crown (roughly 45 minutes). The first appointment went just fine and I left with my temporary crown. The next week, I went in for my appointment at 9am to get my permanent crown seated. When I got to the office, it was evident the crown was too large and didn’t fit. The dental assistant was nice and tried to file it down to make it fit. When the dentist came in to take a look, she had me bite down and the crown cracked. She told me they would need to re-make my crown, which wasn’t an issue. They had to re-numb me, pack my gums again, and take the digital images of my mouth to make the crown again. I didn’t leave that appointment until two and a half hours later at 11:30am. I went back for my appointment at 3pm that afternoon (they rushed the new crown since they have an in-office lab). The crown was too small on both sides, so they have to add more material to both sides which took over an hour. When the dentist came in to cement the crown down, she got cement stuck on both sides in between my other teeth. She just about destroyed my gums trying to get the cement out – she used what resembled a saw, a drill, and other tools to try and remove the cement in between my teeth. She told me she couldn’t get it and would need to cut the crown off and I could come back a different day to re-do the process. I told her absolutely not, reiterated the fact that I was moving away this weekend, and told her this needed to be completed today. She had the dental assistant take a look, and she was able to get the cement off. When I was leaving, I told the assistant that the crown felt high because I felt it each time I bit down. She took the diamond-head grinder to remove some of the crown. When she was done, the tool got caught on the tissue under my tongue! My mouth was pouring blood. She put 6 gauze in my mouth, one after another, which all came out dripping blood. She literally ripped a hole in the bottom tissue under my tongue with no concern – malpractice! I was in the office that day for a total of 6 hours for an appointment that should have taken 45 minutes. Now I can’t eat, my tongue and tissue at the bottom of my mouth is constantly bloody, and my gums are black. I’m attaching a picture so you can see the damage they did to my mouth. They didn’t offer any type of compensation, nor did they call me the next day to see how my mouth was after they destroyed it. At the least, I should have been refunded for my out of pocket costs. The crown also doesn’t fit properly. DO NOT EVER GO HERE!"
