"First Impressions are EVERYTHING and sometimes, it happens with just a quick phone call. I called today and was transferred to Carol when I said my call was pertaining to Wills. I explained to Carol that I wanted to make an appointment to come in with my mother, to have her existing Will reviewed/updated (since my father had deceased since the preparation and the Will we had was decades old). I explained I was not sure if a new Will needed to be prepared or the existing one updated. The appointment should have been scheduled, fees disclosed and call ended – but it did not go down that way, at all. She abruptly and randomly informed me that I would not be allowed in the room with the attorney and my mother. This was quite concerning to me, as I’ve never had an attorney tell me that I couldn’t be in a room with my mother. I also feel there might have been a better way to say this then the way she did, especially with no history of the customer. I explained that my mom would not be comfortable with that and she would be more than happy to tell the attorney that was the case on site, one on one with attorney. I understand the rule – but found the abrupt nature of her informing me to be tasteless. I also explained that I was the only dependent and there were no other beneficiaries on the Will and the Will ALREADY EXISTED. Our attorney has retired, so we thought a local attorney would be great. Again, I just wanted to see if we needed a new one prepared since the passing of my father. After several back and forth talking, and her telling me she didn't understand why I needed to be with my mom, she finally confirmed that I would be allowed in the room. Not going to lie, I was very irritated at this point. Carol was far from pleasant, had a huge attitude and was providing horrible customer service. My mom sat next to me listening to the entire conversation, very displeased as well. But I pushed past this, knowing I had great transactions in the past with Barnes & Walker. I scheduled the appointment and asked what the fee would be for the appointment (she never provided during our call). She responded with "there is absolutely a fee, we don't do anything for free", Instead of just replying with the amount.... I then asked "what is the amount?" and she said she wasn't sure what the attorney charged. WHAT? I asked if she could find out..... as I'm not just going to be blindly billed. At this point, I realized I was done. Her attitude, the irritation in her voice from the beginning of the call, as well as the lack of professionalism and knowledge of even the hourly fee, was enough for me to take my business elsewhere. Real Estate transactions have always been great, but Will preparation is best handled by another firm. I quickly called and booked an appointment with a knowledgeable, friendly firm."
