Pinelands Trailhead

"Visited here as part of my trip to the Everglades. I camped at Lone Pine Key, and it's only about 3 miles south. It's a short trail on a boardwalk with many informational kiosks about the Pinelands ecosystem. It also has a small shelter at the beginning of the trail. The kioss are sort of showing their age, but still largely legible. Even if you end up not liking it, though, it's so short that it won't eat up much of your day."

"The bullet holes on the trailhead sign is a foreshadow into the Pinelands. The yellow flies, mosquitos, overgrowth on path, one fallen pine on the path, and finally, the crumbling paved path. This is a short hike, but a treacherous one. Any good adventurer will tell you to get your feet wet anywhere you go. Good luck, and remember, wear a hat, bring water, and use bug spray (I prefer a eucalyptol based one over DEET). Also, for maintenance change the sign please, not a very good look to have bullet holes on the trail sign."

"A fantastic place for a short circle walk, one more exposure to the natural beauty of the Everglades. At times the landscape is reminiscent of the Jurassic era. The only thing missing are the dinosaurs!"
