Reviews of Allapatchee Shores Park
"This is a small park with easy access to water. The parking area can fit 3 vehicles, with two additional handicapped spaces. There is a picnic table and also a small deck for fishing. It has a cement brick launch for paddle access.. Use caution, as there is moss growth at and below water line and can be quite slippery. There is no bathroom or porta potti . Paddled to the right and came to a dam - couldn't go further. Was actually a nice spot to just stop and enjoy the beauty of the day. Area is kind of depressed looking, run down in spots, but still enjoyable. Went to the right past a railway and beyond two bridges.. and it finally opened up, leaving you free from society. Very little shade opportunity, bring hats, sunscreen and water... don't forget healthy snacks. Safe Paddling!!"
"Went one way and had houses to one side a good distance in. It was the first time we ever kayaked. So we didn't go to far, we were just testing out the new toy. Noticed on the way out, the other direction is had a better view"
"Nice little pocket launch site. Rarely anyone else the. No alligators, but birds in abundance. Great paddle for a hit summer day. Just watch the tides. It can be shallow."
"I have lived in Charlotte County almost 28 years and this was my first time to kayak on Alligator Creek. I launched at Allapatchee Shores Park and paddled upstream. I thought that was the better direction to avoid houses but after 15 minutes of house after house, I turned back. I was very disappointed. Maybe I should have paddled downstream. But the map showed a lot of development in that direction. I know of better places to kayak nearby. As I took pictures to share with out of state family, I tried hard to exclude houses and docks."
"Small park, but makes for a nice kayak launch. This is a small park in a residential area, and it doesn't seem to get the in-season crowds that other locations do. If you want a nice kayak trip (we went west), I'd recommend this spot."
