About the Business

Wingate Creek State Park, located in Myakka City, Florida, is a 614-acre park in Manatee County. The park is open from 8 a.m. until sundown and offers a variety of natural habitats including scrub, flatwoods, and wetlands. Wingate Creek and Johnson Creek converge in the park, forming a tributary that flows to the Myakka River.
The park is rich in history, with evidence of human occupation dating back thousands of years. The park is named after the Wingate family, who settled in the area in the 1890s. Visitors to the park can enjoy exploring, hiking, biking, birding, and nature study. The park is home to a variety of wildlife including gopher tortoises, wild turkeys, hawks, owls, squirrels, mice, and deer.
The park's upland habitats are maintained with prescribed fire, resulting in a beautiful display of wildflowers in the fall. Endangered species such as the scrub morning glory can also be found in the park. Managed through Lake Manatee State Park, Wingate Creek State Park is a popular destination for outdoor enthusiasts and nature lovers alike.
Reviews
"Great place to walk and explore. Mixture of dirt/sand trails and lots of shrubbery to enjoy. I’m hopeful I’ll see a scrub jay next time! I love the log book they keep here as well."
"The scenery/vegetation doesn't change much. I didn't see much in the way of wildlife. I was hoping for better hiking- packing sand in some areas, but lots of loose sand- which I just don't enjoy walking on (white trail and red trail)... the green trail- mostly perimeter is easier to walk on... more grassy. Quiet- didn't see another soul... and as someone else mentioned, being water!"
"Need code to get in, call lake manatee state park, good small hike. Edit: Apparently you don't need a gate code anymore, how the times have changed!"
"Undeveloped state park. Mostly shaded fenced in parking area. No fee. Access walk trough in fence (no gate code needed) Lots of animal tracks. Mostly packed sandy dry roads for trails. Hiking is mostly in open sun, there are numerous shady areas. Bring water and bug repellent."
"Small state park foot trails only peaceful and low traffic"
