About the Marjorie-Kinnan Rawlings House
Located in Hawthorne, Florida, the Marjorie Kinnan Rawlings House is a historic state park that offers visitors a glimpse into the life of the renowned author. The farmhouse, where Rawlings wrote her Pulitzer prize-winning novel "The Yearling," has been lovingly restored and preserved to reflect the 1930s farm life that she experienced in Cross Creek.
Visitors can explore the park grounds, including the farmyard and trails, which are open daily from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Guided tours of the interior of the farmhouse are available Thursday through Sunday at various times throughout the day. Admission to the guided tours is free, but donations are welcomed.
In addition to the farmhouse, the park also features picnic facilities, a boat ramp to Orange Lake, and a playground for visitors to enjoy. Those interested in geocaching can also try to find the hidden box in the farmyard area.

Reviews of Marjorie-Kinnan Rawlings House
"Amazing guided tour. I learned so much more."
"Amazing it takes you back to those old days. It’s an excellent experience. Marjorie-Kinnan Rawlings had a beautiful life here. She was a fun hostess, famous writers where hosted here, so interesting lovely I keep coming back because it’s a paradise here on earth it feels so peaceful. It’s free to look outside but for the inside it’s paid. I will come back one’s again earlier last tour is at 3:00 pm."
"There is a parking fee ($3.00) on the Honor-System at the gate and there are Donation boxes throughout the site. The home is kept almost to original with the belongings of Marjorie which her second husband gave to the property after she passed and once it was in the hands of the University. The tour guide was very knowledgeable and took questions as we went from room to room during the tour. Many books on the shelves are originals which visiting authors gave to her as gifts. The orange grove is grown over but there are two trails that meander through the landscape and provide for a shaded hike. Benches at different spots provide a place for a rest and reflection."
"Always a peaceful and nice stroll around the property. Stopping and watching the chickens and ducks. The adventure to find a sweet orange or tangerine..good luck with that!! Every season, every day is nice here. Take a walk to the water while there, it's beautiful!!"
"One of my favorite places to visit of one of my favorite authors. This depicts the real Florida before theme parks arrived. I've toured inside the house and it is worth the time and learning the history. Beautiful garden, citrus trees, and chickens. I've been back without touring the home and just enjoying the peacefulness of the grounds. There's a little trail just past the guest house. A real gem."
