"This camp was the first one that I have ever worked at with that being said, there definitely is always going to be ups and downs when working at any company. Overall, the structure of the camp at Challenger middle school definitely needs vast improvement to cater to both of the employees and the club kids. There is no particular blame toward saying anyone since it’s a club and all of this is a group effort. However, in my personal experience with my coworkers, it felt as though effort was not reciprocated as it was given. I was lucky enough to have two amazing coworkers with me with our group of kids. But the lack of commitment and creativity when it came to certain activities seemed poor. Although there was open room communication there didn’t seem that there was much comprehension. The lack of time structures for field trips, and the fact that the bus drivers new two weeks in advance what time they should be there seemed sad. Especially as staff or even our club director had very little knowledge or was iffy on the time structure dates as it seems to be changing ever so often seemed very unfair. Moving forward, I believe that changes should be made pre-planned schedules/ having more structured dates and times. Continuing on the ideas for activities and following through and having management or the art teacher, etc. to be more involved with the kids was disappointing and repulsive. I will say on my part it definitely felt like I was doing someone else’s job when the art teacher status was not relevant in the first place, but was then created. Then going forward through the summer there was a lack of inspiration. I believe that extra time could have been used more wisely, especially because the older kids were not very active in the art room and didn’t do many projects. This extra amount of time could have been used to pre-plan activities and do examples instead of just showing a picture on your phone and then getting frustrated/upset and walking out of the classroom when said children, don’t understand fully what’s trying to be represented. Another improvement that would be much promising is the care and effort towards the staff. Of course I agree that we are there for the kids, but at the same we as staff should also feel that our Director or higher ups are for the staff as well."
"Positive Place for kids. I enjoyed working there for 7 years. It's really important to the kids to have affordable child services that enrich the lives of these children."
